That's...crazy.

You know you're in the minority when you've never even had Taco Bell before...or Chinese...or Italian et al.

Tough call. Italian, Mexican, and Indian fight for top spot, but American and European are not far behind. Then there's various Mediterranean foods that are awesome and Chinese. I pretty much love food for everywhere, as long as it's not Seafood(with a few exceptions).

I love real Mexican food. I don't like Tex-Mex at all. I don't want Taco Bell inspired hard tacos, I want soft corn tacos with meat, onions, cilantro and little else. I find that most Tex-Mex is bland and has too many calorie-laden additions like sour cream, cheese, guac, etc.

So, my favorites:

Indian
Thai
Italian
Mexican
Turkish/Mediterranean
French

I like where you're going with this. Cilantro + onion + lime + salsa roja + meat = GREAT

There is no need to add unnecessary tex-mex bullshit

Agreed. It's quite healthy in this form as well. Not so much with Tex-Mex.

I recently got into Indian food too, love the copius amounts of spices. I think I like South Indian a bit better though, the spice (aka heat) really work for me.

Agreed. I also like some of the northern styles as well though. A lot of Southern Indian skips on the garlic, ginger, etc. and sometimes I really want that flavor in the masalas. I use ginger and garlic in all my masalas.

South Indian is a wonderful mixture of spices. When it's hot, it's not just because someone threw on some extra chili powder. The masalas tend to have less oil as well, but a lot of that depends on the cook.

Love chutney's as well! Hell I'm gonna go to some So. Indian restaurant this weekend, load up on dosas and chutney haha.

Bit fan of chutney as well. My favorite is a cold mango chutney, but the ubiquitous mint is also good. The wife makes a great tomato chutney though.

I'm suddenly hungry again.

Definitely. I always thought I hated Mexican because that Tex-Mex cheesy crap is all I can get where I live in Ohio. But then I went down to AZ and MN, tasted real Mexican, and I gotta say that it is terrific. Cilantro + onion + lime + salsa roja + meat is definitely wonderful. Then I ate at a Tex Mex place on the way back and it was loaded with cheese and crap and it looked like someone had thrown up on the plate. Ugg. Why does it seem like "American style" is always culinary rape? Turn Mexican into disgusting fatty crap. Turn Chinese into much the same thing. Fish is breaded and deep fried. Same with shrimp. Etc.

I had the misfortune of eating at Chevy's once. We tried some of their texmex hotsauce whatever bullshit. Even the mexican guy working there agreed that the stuff was bunk, and he wouldn't touch it.

Mexican and Italian. Good mexican food makes me miss living in California where there are a lot of taquerias. Not all of them are good, but with the amount that I had near me at least 2-3 were bound to be pretty good. I've yet to find a taqueria here in Raleigh even close to my favorite places in California.

I'm really surprised Mexican is getting so much love.

At least my country is coming in second in something other than just population crisis

Yeah, Cali (at least SoCal) has a lot of really good Mexican places. I tend to go to the places that are aren't so pretty, but they're in Hispanic neighborhoods. These are the places where you get everything from scratch, proper spices used, etc. San Diego has a lot of great options especially.

I agree about the southeast. Atlanta has very few decent Mexican restaurants, and the ones that are decent still don't come close to the best that Mexican has to offer.

I think SoCal just makes you spoiled about all kinds of food. You can find (at least) a fair representation of EVERY kind of cuisine here

No cajun? Crawfish etoufe, shrimp creole, seafood gumbo etc.

I like country/soul food:

country fried steak with white gravy
mashed potatoes
fried okra
buttermilk biscuits with butter

I'm Indian. I love Indian food but, you know, I eat it every day. I mostly get Chinese & Italian. The Lebanese have awesome desserts and sweets.

Tough choice. I eat more Italian at home, but Mexican when I eat out. However, when Chinese food is done right it tops them both. *sigh*

Now I'm hungry.

It's a toss up between Mexican and Greek, but I sided with Greek for national pride. 9 times out of 10 when I cook, it's either Greek or Mexican.

Lower on the totem poll would be Italian/French. French is really heavy IMHO, italian is USUALLY pretty heavy

That said, I could eat NY pizza or carne asada/al pastor tacos for days...I mean the real taco's, with tortilla, meat, cilantro and onion, maybe some lime, and some bomb salsa roja

king taco/el taurino/ghetto taco truck FTW

You must be from LA!

Add Cuban and Brazilian churrascaria to the poll.

I am surprised with the poll results. I voted middle eastern ... prolly just because I miss it. I really like Ethiopian food, it's delicious.

While I like Ethiopian food, it's also somewhat a monotone affair - if you don't like berber spice, you're SOL.

Soul Food, and Korean BBQ (Galbee, Bulgogi)

My wife is Korean, and love the food. Naengmyun in the summer FTW
