 That's exactly how I feel. We can buy pretty much anything anytime we want. Doesn't have to be Christmas. But Christmas is magical time for the children and we buy gifts to celebrate. My daughter is still young enough and believes in Santa, elf, and the tooth fairy. So I try to do my best Santa impression. Santa gets all the credit and I get the joy of seeing her happy and in awe.
Well fortunately I don't have to decide gifts for kids or doing something nice for my wife.
I don't have kids of my own, but we have 5 little nieces and nephews in Japan that usually get 2-3 large boxes of stuff from America. Shipping alone is usually $300 or so.
I also buy my wife things during the year. We don't really pool our money like so many do, so gifts mean something rather than just taking 'bill money'.
And generally we buy what we want. Certain things like jewelry usually mean more to people as a gift.
I don't know why every 'gift' thread has to turn into a we skip gifts because we do 'vacations, buy a car, etc'. That's just saying you can't afford to do both and trying to assume someone else isn't. My wife also ends up in Japan 3 weeks a year plus our own vacations. This next year I am going to try to get to Japan for a month. I don't think my company will allow it, but I am going to try to work something out.
Yeah, that's on top of trying to shoot for a Rolex for her. Personally I am going to try to figure out a way to get that closer to $8000-10000...lots of Palm Beachers/Boca types have these and are constantly putting them on consignment.
