That is to this day my biggest problem. Making distance decisions and being able to hit my clubs the same exact distance every time still poses a challenge sometimes. I think if I practiced more and got out on the course more often I could smooth that out though. Having a caddie would shave a stroke or 2 off of my handicap.

In honesty, I think my handicap is about 20. My best 9 hole round was 45. Best for 18 was a 110. I can shoot a couple pars and a bogey in a row, and then completely self destruct for a couple snowmen and a triple bogey in a row.

I'm kind of messed up when it comes to golf though. I'm normally a righty, but golf lefty. Got some really funky motion/form going on.

That's how I started out myself. I'm a rightie but I played hockey leftie, so it was natural for me to get into golfing leftie. I even got decent as a leftie, but I realized that to become a good golfer I needed to play with my dominant hand (otherwise my swimg would be all screwy forever), so I switched over. Since you seem to be more of a beginner, you should consider switching: starting afresh will also help you get all your bad swing habits out the window and learn a good swing from scratch.

I dunno. I've been batting lefty since I can remember. Used to be a hell of a hitter that way. Swing a golf club left handed just feels...more natural. Trying to do it right handed is incredibly awkward.

I'd have better luck finding clubs though.

haha, yup, I was in the same boat. hell, swinging lefty STILL feels more natural for me now that I try it....but switching to righty made me a much better player b/c i already knew the essentials (how to make good swings, set-up, pre-shot routine etc) and was able to learn a much better swing from scratch.

Probably around +18-20 if I were to guess. I usually score 44-46 on 9 holes, depending on what tees I'm playing from and how hard the course is.

A big problem of mine is losing balls in the trees off the fairways. I'm decent enough to be able to scramble a bogey if I'm in the trees off the tee, but I always lose track of where they land and have to take a penalty drop+layup just to continue the hole. I might end up with a better score if I could just find my damn ball and play it where it lies - even if that happens to be behind some trees. I might lose 2 or 3 balls a round just because I missed the fairway by 5-10 yards and can't find where it bounced.:frown: This especially annoying when people are waiting behind my group and I have only a minute to look for it.

I guess if I were to start hitting the fairway, this wouldn't be a problem.

My handicap is probably something like 15-16. Best round ever was a 78.

Shot an 87 just this morning.

LOL! BW, if I wouldn't have been out of the office on field work assignments, that would have been a VERY safe bet.

My handicap has went from an 11 to a 15 this year. I used to shoot in the low to mid-80s with consistency. Now I struggle to break 90 it seems! It is probably from playing too much and not practicing, and not being serious enough about the game. The social aspect (who I'm playing with and how much we are going to drink) seems to have taken center stage. Although, this is starting to fade as the club championship approaches. I would like to do well for my flight, or win a skin like I did last year! Oh yeah, my best round is an 80 which was in a match. For 9 holes, I have shot as low as 38. I'm confident that as I get older, I'll get better. So much of the game is mental - much more than I ever thought when I first started playing at age 20 or so, roughly 10 years ago.

My home course is a tale of two nines. The old nine was opened in 1969 and is very challenging (tiny yet true greens!). The new was opened in the mid-90s and there is almost no trouble at all - a slicer's paradise. On the recent golf trip, we got to play REAL golf which, though tougher, was so much more rewarding. Anyhoo, I love the game and I doubt I will ever put it down. Absolutely LOVE it! Where's Patt?! great thread, thanks junkerman...

Yeah, yeah, I'm here Melty. I'm a 5.1 index, and my best score ever is 72. Shot a 75 the other day, and my low for the year was a 74. My goal is to break par or equal it this year.

My course is about 15 years old, and being where I live in Northern Alberta is open from May-early October. It is the only 18 hole course within 200 kilometers in any direction! The greens are large, but undulating, and the course, although relatively straight, has a few narrow fairways. Our sand sucks a$$, like talcum powder. Indeed, I'm trying to organize donations to replace the sand we have now, but have as of yet been unsuccessful.

So far this year I've won about $500 worth of stuff in leagues, and personal matches. I don't generally like playing for large amounts of money, but I did come away $100 richer from a 5 man skins game earlier this year. In the leagues I have won the rest on skins, closest to the pins and long drive-type contests.

I play 4-5 times a week, usually 3 rounds of 18, and a couple of 9 holes & practice sessions if I can swing it. I've been going hard this year because before long the wife and I will be popping out chilluns, so I've got to get while the getting is good. On a related note, I'm working on a baby-stroller/golf cart design

We need an ATOT golf tournament!

Best I've ever shot was an 82 at Hiwan---b*tch of a course, too. It's a mountain course, and used to host the Colorado open for about 30 years. I'm damned proud of that +12 score. Even if it was 8 years ago.

I usually shoot between 90-100 these days, though it depends very much on the difficulty of the course.

No idea what my handicap is as I don't play much these days.

I do disagree with this. Although I'm fairly ambidextrous, I do play golf lefty. I write with my right hand, shoot a basketball with my right hand etc. I don't think being lefty brings me down in any way, except that I can't try all my friend's new clubs.

I have, however, played right handed for a 9 hole stretch, and managed to break 60 with a smooth 57.

I'm anticipating it will still let me get out on the course, and push the kid around with me. Personally, and not-so-humbly, I think it is brilliant

I'd love to host a tournament, but I'm hell and gone far from anything and everyone. Gotta get myself sent to Ontario for work again one of these days, and bring the sticks. I'd love to play a round, and drink a few rounds with some ATOTers.

Yeah, that's not quite it, but I would still bring my sticks and find somewhere to hack around. I'd be sent there to talk to a company we're doing business with, CyberShift, if you've heard of them. Time entry systems.

My best score ever was last summer, I shot a 77 on a par 72 course. Although I used 2 mulligans that round as well.

However this summer I've been gettin back into it. I am keeping real scores and not taking mulligans w/out penalty. I've only played 4 rounds ... 110, 103, 94, 90. So my scores keep dropping. And I'm getting new irons very soon as well which will help me out with some of my long shots. My irons now have a graphite shaft which isn't really for me, so I'm getting a steel shafted iron set.

EDIT:

I gave up a lot of distace (probably 20 yards on the longer irons) for the sake of A LOT better accuracy going from graphite irons to steel.

Really straightened out my shot.
