My idea of golf is to get a cart, a 12 pack of good beer and spend a day on the green. When I play I usually play 4 balls at once, so I get to hit more. As far as my scores, I never keep track. Once I got 3 under par on a par 5, I was pretty stoked (hit this monster with my wood and then got this miracle shot with a 9 iron. It was awesome.

has anyone ever tried keeping something under their left arm when they swing? i'm going to try it later in the back yard and see how it feels. i think it is supposed to promote a better shoulder turn. i'll figure out this game sooner or later!!

Heh...the double eagle was my brother's...I wish it was mine!

As far as swinging with something under your arm...I used to practice with a sock under my right arm to keep my elbow in, but I've never heard of someone doing the same with the left arm. Who knows, maybe it will help?

ah, my bad. well, at least you witnessed it!! as far as the thing-under-the-arm swing thing, i haven't done it yet and sitting here on my ass after a nice meal is feeling pretty damn good. maybe tomorrow.

in a nutshell it means that is average score is 5.1 strokes over par. ie. par 71 course, he shoots a 76 or so. it also means that he could a) whip my ass all over the course and b) teach me a thing or two about the plethora of errors in my swing and how to possibly work on correcting them.

No, that's not what it means. Handicap is based on the 10 best of the last 20 scores plus small factoring for course length and slope. It's not a pure scoring average, it's a scoring average of only your best rounds.

My last 20 rounds have been:
76-78-76-75-70-74-79-68-77-70-72-75-80-72-79-73-76-75-71-74

That's a pure scoring average of 74.5

Only the 70-74-68-70-72-72-73-75-71-74 are used as they're the 10 best, so for handicapping purposes my scoring average in the rounds that count is 71.9 With course rating and slope factored in my handicap is 0.2. I've briefly been on the plus side from time to time and my best ever rating was +1.2, even then as a plus handicap my scoring average was over par.

For comparison Tiger Woods currently leads the PGA Tour with a scoring average of 68.7, that's only about 2.x strokes under par on the average round. Given the length and difficulty of tour courses if he had a real handicap it would be somewhere around +7

I love ATOT golf threads, they're almost as accurate as ATOT sex threads. The odds of a decent golfer shooting 10 strokes under his handicap in a given round is 125,000:1. That means a person playing 2 rounds a week, 100 rounds a year would need 1250 years to be even money to do it once. And here we have 2 guys in the first 20 posts who claim to have done it and another that claims to have a 9 under. It's always amazing how ATOT manages to defy the odds.

You are funny.

First off where did you get those odds? It is not uncommon to pull a great round out of your ass and as a matter of fact I prsonally witnessed a round of 65 at Island Hills by a friend of mine who was a 5 handicap at the time. That's 12 stokes under his handicap. What are the odds of that?

BTW, My round of 72 included two chip ins, one for eagle and one for birdie. Somedays things just go your way. My grand total of rounds under 80 is 11 (72, 75, 77(par 71), 78 and seven 79's).

I did not post here to increase my e-penis size. If you don't believe me I'd love to play with you sometime.

ROFLMAO!! I'll play you straight up for your house Skippy. The stats are straight from the USGA who compiles legit stats from legit golfers from thousands of tournaments yearly. The odds of a 5 handicap shooting 12 stokes under his handicap is roughly akin to the odds of the moon falling out of the sky. The odds of one person shooting 10 under and witnessing a 12 under in the same lifetime would be like the moon falling out of the sky, the sun going supernova and Pauly Shore releasing a good movie at exactly the same moment. But yeah, I'm sure it really happened to you though.

There's a bunch of seemingly nice people in this thread, and one big 'ole GOLF SNOB...

Seriously Gag, you can't be that much of a stickler in real life? You'd be playing a lot of solo rounds wouldn't you?
