I'm a 7 handicap, and the best score I ever shot was 69 (on a par 71).

share some of your golf stories!

(Kim Jong-Il's need not apply. I don't care if you shot a 57 once. Seriously. Don't care. Don't post.)

A +7 handicap is pretty good, isn't it? I don't play golf, but if I did, mine would probably be +40.

Having said that, I kick ass on Tiger Woods....for some reason, I absolutely love golf games.

[Edit]
I've got $10 that says meltdown75 will post in this thread within the next 15 minutes. Any takers?

a single digit handicap is pretty good. I'm proud of it as its taken me many years to become as good as I am now. I feel if I wasn't as busy with school and practiced more I could get it down to 3 or 4.

Oh, I am a sick TW player.

I don't have an official USGA index but the guys I play with give me a 4. Best round ever was a 68 (par 72).

I suck at golf video games.

My handicap is probably plus 20 or so. But i was just a rookie in high school, never played enough to get good.

if you broke 90s as a HS freshman you were already a decent player, you should stick with it.

I've been playing since sophmore year of HS, so for 6 years now. I try to visit the driving range at least 3 times a week and play a round at least once every 2 weeks. When I'm less busy I will play a couple rounds a week sometimes (when I go on a golfing vacation I play like 4 days in a row).

My best score ever? 97. And that was on a public course with no water, few bunkers and the wide fairways/short rough "good for your confidence" kind of layout. As you can imagine, a handicap is not worth mentioning. I did play on Bethpage Black once (where they held the US Open a few years back) and shot in the 120s. While the score sucks, it really gave me a feel for how good the pros really are.

Best way to play golf:

1v1, each w/ your own cart
only 1 club
cant leave your cart untill you get your ball on the green
once your ball is on the green, get out of your cart, grab it, move on to the next hole.
best done @ earliest possible teetime or when course is close to vacant
winner decided with combination of time to complete each hole and # of strokes

Sadly, I don't think I was even playing from the blue tee boxes - the whites, if I recall correctly. I've actually played the blue course there a few times. Even that's a really tough course for me (I think 115 was my "best" score there). I'd really like to play more and to get better but I get to the driving range once a month at best and probably play no more than 4-5 times a year.

How come? Going to the driving range is great! Even when I was terrible I loved going. It's cheap, gets you outside, provides a bit of a workout, and makes for a decent social opportunity. I can understand not getting out on the course b/c it's a large chunk of time and costs a good amount, but if theres a driving range within 15 minutes of my house I'm gonna be there at least once a week just for fun.

Driving range is good, but for a beginner like myself, I cannot rely on it. The condition is just too perfect, not to mention where I go do not have real grass.

I started a few months ago, and I am getting close to hitting in the mid 90's. My biggest deficiency is not able to assess the situation and condition and taking an appropriate shot. I used to think golf is so boring (I regularly play basketball) but the game is such an individual challenge. If I get mad in basketball, I could either pound it out by driving or posting, but in golf, you have to relax and concentrate, which is hard to do when you are pissed. I am looking to shoot in low 80s and high 70s by next summer.

Love the game.

It's tough getting to the range in NYC. They're either expensive or inconvenient (or both). While I agree that even the range is fun, in between work and family, I just don't get a whole lot of time to play or practice. Maybe someday when I retire...

Uhh...bad, and really bad.

In honesty, I think my handicap is about 20. My best 9 hole round was 45. Best for 18 was a 110. I can shoot a couple pars and a bogey in a row, and then completely self destruct for a couple snowmen and a triple bogey in a row.

I'm kind of messed up when it comes to golf though. I'm normally a righty, but golf lefty. Got some really funky motion/form going on.
