In fact, I still have an 8 year old Western Digital 10 gig that went through the fire when my house burned in 2000. The whole system melted down around the hard-drive. After breaking the case apart to remove it and letting it dry out for a few days I reinstalled it in a new machine and it's still running to this day in my daughters computer.
