Since many of you are listing your body fat percentage, is there any way to find out what your body fat percentage is without using a machine or going to a doctor or something?

Thanks to this thread, I'm off to buy a scale - or am I?

I don't really want to know my weight but I know I've lost some of my belly recently, which is a good thing.

They had a physical screening day at work where they used a combination of your height, weight, age, sex, and a machine that runs a current through your body to calculate your body fat. There's no good way to do it yourself. Normally it's done with calipers to measure the thickness of fat on your body at several locations, but the most accurate way is total immersion in a fluid chamber (sealed air chamber or water tank). Basically, there's no easy way.

By the way, 6.9% is really low. Less than 5% is dangerous to your health since at that point your body starts consuming fat around your internal organs that serves to protect them from shock. 10% is good for people in top athletic shape, and something like 20% is healthy for women.

But then, I'm an advanced weight lifter with under 15% BF at the moment.

Well an advanced lifter would be a lot fatter att 15% than a normal person so i guess you are just fat.

Anything over 12% for a serious builder is not only overweght, it's borderline obese, so either you have built no muscle (these are percentages we are talking about, the more muscle the less your fat percentage should be) or you have been drinking way too much beer.

LOL, I'm glad you're so concerned. Actually, I missed this post because I WAS out drinking beer last night.

First, I don't compete. Second, I am doing my winter bulking.

And this is what I look like at about 15% BF:

You're clueless.

First of all, he said he was an advanced weight lifter, not a competitive bodybuilder. If you look at guys in weight lifting competitions, they are not cut like bodybuilders.

Well technically Amused isn't a weightlifter either. He weight trains and does bb but doesn't do competitions.

A lot of weightlifters now a days are really cut up
http://www.fortifiediron.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=35732&hl=pictures

Not to BB standards but they are still cut. Of course some of them aren't as the sport is about lifting more and not looking cut.

I'm not really thin, nor am I 'huge'.

Ouch, stay well my friend.

I know a guy who suffers from Crohn's disease. He is a fireman and he has gone to an Olympic game for weightlifting. Top guy and a f0cking awesome lifter!

How many calories are you eating per day? The solution is simple - keep eating more until you start gaining weight. I know people who have to eat 7k+/day to gain.
Wow. They must have to use the restroom constantly.

And I'm 6'2" 190lbs.

Ronnie Coleman claims to do upwards of 12k.

You'd be surprised how much meat your frame can hold. Up until I was 21, I was about 5'10, 135 lbs.

Now I'm 205 lbs. You'd think my frame is real big, but the skeleton underneath has to be the same size. I'm not fat or anything, I just look thicker.
