How do so many here have masters degrees and no one has a doctorate? When I investigated getting a masters degree, everyone told me I couldn't do it without at least aiming for a doctorate.

If you want to become a teacher(somebody who works in a college, not teaching kids at your home in evening), you definitely need a PhD.

Bachelors, but I got two of them.
BS in General Science w/emphasis in Chemistry and Psychology - pretty much means you know something about each emphasis area, but not enough to be valuable to any employer.
BS in Computer Science - that one worked out ok. I've been in the software development field about 12 years now.

At one point, I started a Masters program in CS and took a few classes, but decided it was too much money without much ROI.

Question - has anyone gotten their MBA online from an accredited university? Most of my options in town are classes every other weekend at Houston satellite campuses for TAMU and Tulane, not to mention the local schools such as U of H, St. Thomas, Houston Baptist, etc. While I wouldn't mind going to a physical classroom every other weekend, learning from the comfort of my couch would be an even better situation

I would much rather hire employees based on their ability to do the job, not their ability to put up with high school, unless the job requires one to be in high school.

Also, I am not aware of any job outside of entry level that even asks for a high school diploma or GED equivalent. It is literally only frowned upon by the high school graduates that think they are somehow better, most of which couldn't pass the GED tests themselves (I believe it is 2 tests, one general knowledge and the other math based).

Considering one of them is real and one is not, yes. A Harvard degree is worth more.

Now, unless you're studying a specific subject the college is historically known for and has a great program, it isn't worth much in the real world. A CS degree from Harvard is worth just as much as a CS degree from any the University of Michigan or some other place.

Actually, I should have picked a different university because U of M has a great CS program. So, it would be worth more than Harvard.

What do you need the MBA for? If you are looking to get into an elite business position you will need to go to a physical top MBA program. If you are just doing it to fill job requirements than online MBAs are OK. I hear good things about Western Governor's online program.

As someone who recently got my MBA my advice is to take it in the classroom. The networking with other successful people is worth more than the actual stuff you learn.
