1) Police Officer near Chicago.
2) BS in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration + Academy, not to mention all the on-going training we currently have.
3) I'd currently grade it a 7/10 on the enjoyment scale, if only because my current bosses don't know how to make a decision or lead. They are basically there so the village can come in and boss them around which makes our lives hell. But it has some very satisfying moments.

So I gotta ask, what's your take on concealed carry in cook county?

I'll start out by saying that cook county is a mess at the moment. Complete mess.

That being said, I'm all for concealed carry. In all of my dealings with criminals, they will carry a gun concealed anyway. The law means nothing to them and with the recent rash of "flash mobs" in Chicago, I don't see why a private citizen can't carry if they wish to do so. I think a good portion of Illinois was waiting for Daley to be out of office in Chicago to really start to push the CC issue. He was the de facto Illinois Governor.

I carry a gun everyday of every week, on and off duty with the exception of me getting hammered at a bar or going on vacation. My neighbor can't do that, and I personally see that as wrong. We deal with the same people over and over again...none of them would ever be allowed to own a gun due to their criminal history. Why the legislator in Springfield or the County/City government believes that the no CC law helps anyone is beyond me.

BTW, disregard anything that ever comes out of a Chief's office when it comes to CC. They are politicians, just they get to carry a gun and wear a uniform instead of a suit. They will say almost anything to keep their jobs.

I appreciate the input, I never did understand why cook county has such a hardon against CCW - every time it gets hot out, there are shootings. Logic would imply that the people that are going to do illegal shootings aren't concerned about carrying illegally.

I live in streeterville (attacks happened about 2 blocks from what I live) and work nightshift downtown ... prime candidate to carry the USP that has to sit at my parents house in MI.

Just out of curiosity, have you had any experience with people fanny-pack carrying (mag separate) to be compliant with the "enclosed container" language of the statute?

Bachelors + masters required, shitload of education on top of that, plus different programs during the summer, etc.

Generally, I enjoy it quite a bit. This time of year, seniors with senioritis are a pain in the ass to deal with.

2) Started summer after my sophomore year in CS
3) Yeah, I work with some great, smart people, and I write embedded software for missiles and other system software. I haven't been to a launch yet, unfortunately.

Be careful out there.

Fanny-pack wise...no, I have not. I imagine it does not satisfy the requirement for "enclosed container" because it is immediately accessible and concealed on your person. A creative attempt around the law, but I think any States Attorney or Judge will see right through it for what it is. In which case the "spirit of the law" would be applied rather then the exact letter.

1) What is your job?
I recruit software developers.

2) How much education/training was involved?
Just a B.A., but I'm unique at my company in my lack of experience.

3) Do you enjoy it and why
Yes. Jobs aren't a tough thing to sell, and when I close a deal not only am I making a real difference in a project I'm making a difference in someone's life. Plus I get to make a BOATLOAD OF MONEY, more than any of these folks I place who worked so hard getting PhDs or going to Carnegie Mellon or whatever. Day-in-day-out job consists mostly of cold calling, talking a lot on the phone, so while some burn out because of "high pressure" I think it is the easiest thing in the world.

Hrm, some interesting careers m, I'm surprised no one yet works in the medical field.

For the longest time I contemplated becoming a police officer but the opportunities have been few and far between.

I've got a BS in Geography but I wouldn't mind going back to school if it was something I really liked.

1a) 20 years as Union Carpenter (9 of those self-employed).
1b) 12 years as Project Manager (construction)
1c) Currenly retired, but doing a butt-load of Safety Programs for USACOE), Farming full-time.

2a) Supposed to do a 4 year apprenticeship, but my boss had that waived due to having experience.
2b) Brought over 25 years experience with me, acquired a BS in CT.
2c) OSHA 10 hr. & 40 hr. certs + a buttload of other construction & safety related training & certs. (Farming, just need a love & respect for animals mostly, but self taught for the most part.

3a) Had it's ups & downs, 7 x 12 hr. days a week was hard to do with a 90 min. commute, but all those hours allowed me to retire a lot earlier.
3b) Loved nearly every minute of it, great company, great pay & benefits, expense account, etc.
3c) I get frustrated at the ignorance at the Corps of Engineers a lot, but the money is just too good. Farming, not a lot of money in it, but the work is absolute Bliss.

1) Sharepoint admin/developer
2) BSEE
3) I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed my old jobs in infrastructure. It's a lot more stressful and as the only Sharepoint person in the company, I am always very busy. I'd honestly prefer to move back into infrastructure with a focus on virtualization, etc. and maybe project management.

Algorithmic trader

2)
Two undergrad degrees, one master's (econ/cs/finance) ... plus some CFA tests

3)
Love it - very challenging analyzing enormous amounts of noisy market data and I'm never too far away from coding stuff here and there. Some of the stats analysis stuff maxes out multi-way xeon boxes with 12gb ram, so instead of the usual computational complexity (option pricing etc.) you deal with data complexity. Plus the comp is outstanding.

1. IT Consultant
2. AAS Degree in Network and System Administration
3. I get to work on technologies that interest me like VMware and SANs. My company does its best to make us consultants as marketable as possible by paying for training but also realizes they need to keep us happy via compensation and perks because the more marketable we are, the more likely other companies will try to snatch us up. Management goes out of their way not to micromanage us and we are encouraged to work from home.

1. Mechanical Engineer - Induction heating
2. BSME
3. Just started 2 weeks ago, not sure how I feel about it yet. They haven't really told me how things work, just gave me a proposal and told me to build the machine.

1) US Army Officer
2) 2 Years ROTC (two classes a week while going to University, one 4 week long course during the summer), 5 Month Infantry Officer Basic Course, 3 Week Airborne, 40 Hours Combatives

That was to start me off. Since then I've done 2 Week Airborne, 6 Month Captains Career Course, 3 Week Recruiting Pre Command Course

3. I do enjoy it. However, the "fun factor" isn't always there. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I'd say 7/10 for overall fun factor. However, my sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that I am doing something worthwhile is at least a 9/10, which is important (at least to me). I don't intend to get out any time soon (just passed 6 years in).

1) I'm a Data Center Administrator.
2) I got a 2-year Associate's Degree from ITT Tech in Computer Network Systems and spent 4 years working my way up from Help Desk to Desktop Support Administrator at another company.
3) I absolutely love my job. I've worked in this position for 4 months and I've handled over 3 million dollars worth of equipment. It satisfies my interest in hardware because I'm responsible for racking & cabling new servers and removing old ones. It satisfies my interest in software because I manager our backups and patching and will be serving as the backup for our proprietary email system and possibly implementing a new system for performing our internal network access audits. I also love the guys I work with... we're all entertained by penis and fart jokes and nobody takes themselves too seriously.

1) Building a telephone company and WISP
2) I have most of a BS in CIS, but haven't used any of what I've learned. Everything I use on the job has been experience and self-taught.
3) I fucking hate it. Sure, it's interesting and kind of fulfilling to see my product in so many businesses, but there is absolutely 0 downtime and the stress is sometimes unbearable. I'm surprised I'm not grey and balding at this point and I'm only 26.

You could do GIS with that degree. Go and take some ArcGIS classes, maybe learn some ArcObjects, and you'd be hireable.

I was doing GIS at my job, it just wasn't very fulfilling. Not sure if it was the type of work (elections) or the field I don't like. Sitting in a cubicle doesn't help my enjoyment though.

There is some field work in some fields of GIS, but almost everyone sits in a cubicle, myself included.
