I'm a field tech. My company gives me a list of all their customers that are in an area reasonably close to me. I make a schedule up and basically spend Monday thru Friday going to all these customers.
The job is pretty decent but the mileage is insane. I've driven 2500 miles in the past 2 weeks.

Anyway, I'm a Hell Desk tech for a huge mortgage company you've probably heard of. Only making $17hr now. My first full year after turning 18, I reported 65k!!! What happened?!?!?!!? Sigh. Of course, I was selling cars then.

Hate selling.
Won't do it no mo.

Step into my office and we'll be performing an in-depth probe into your body...I mean, a field audit

What kind of equipment do you service/repair?

I was a field tech. for IBM for 30+ years, but 500 miles/week was probably the most I ever did. Sounds like you must spend a majority of your time behind the wheel.

I'm a systems administrator on a government contract. Spend the first hour or two clearing the last 24 hours worth of event logs looking for errors. Spend the next two hours BS'ing with the other admins and figuring out how to make the next crazy "we need this!" server fit into our network. Lunch for an hour. Come back and play with logon scripts, printer problems, and whatever else pops up.

Fringe benefits: no rent, no utilities, cheap gas, tax-free, and a very relaxed atmosphere...and it's always summertime so you can snorkle or dive year-round.

CSR at Echostar/Dish Network

My day is filled with calming down pissed off customers who find it in their hearts to blame me personally for their stuff breaking. I wasn't the one who poured a whole damn glass of milk into your reciever, don't blame me!

I have been a Nuclear Operator for 4.5 years now, I am currently in HLP RO Candidate class for the next 16.5 months (school).

In real terms when I'm finished with this current class I would have spent 4 out of 6 years in training for my job, with 10 weeks a year in requal training the 2 years I worked down in the plant. I really hated college so I picked this job because it pays well but I will train/requal/school for the rest of my life.

Physics and applied math student during the school year.

This summer (right now), I'm working in a physics lab (at a center for nanoscience and technology) designing wideband impedance matching networks (using iterated Q-transforms) for the real-time detection of electron motion.

I hope the market isn't as bad when I come out (some of you make it sound pretty crappy). Oh, well...maybe I'll just go to graduate school.
