My Swift is around 17:1
100kW on 1040kg, so around 135 hp on 2250 lbs.

Therefore, I prefer to use another, less mainstream yardstick . . . valve stem cap to radiator hose size ratio. Despite what you may have heard, in all things, size matters. My ratio rules, bitches!

Which is a huge misnomer in the US because it is usually referenced here as the reciprocal and what I've asked for.

I agree power to weight provides for easier differentiation at the high end, but, like mileage, I just went with the convention for where I live.

I have, it is a Lotus Elise. But it is too impractical as a daily driver. I drive 60 miles a day commuting and I have a kid so I need a practical car.

are you kidding me? some of the weight-to-power ratios being posted eclipse that of most supercars LOL. supercars just aren't all that "super" (in the power-to-weight department anyways) when compared to some of the highly modified owned by forum members...exdeath's Cobra is a perfect example.

The confusion comes in when you're talking about stock vs. modified for a drag strip, etc.

Making obscene amounts of power isn't overly difficult, but making obscene power and having a car that appeals to enough people to drive that you can make money doing so *is* however. Making oodles of power with a full warranty is something else too.

5 lbs/hp stock is firmly supercar territory (assuming the rest of the vehicle is balanced with the engine). Even the Veyron SS is only something like 3.5 lbs/hp.

F1 cars are ~1-2lbs/hp depending on the year you look at. That is the benchmark of "insane" in my book, well beyond "super car"

All of these numbers that everyone tosses around are pointless in the ultimate scheme of things. For me, who cares if a car can make 1:1 if it can't get me to work? Well, the guy who built it obviously cares hence that's why he built it. All of these threads are just an e-peen contest and those who get worked up about it must be lacking in e-peen.

If it makes anyone feel better, my truck that I drive daily is 13:1 or somewhere in that range.

Nah, if everyone gets bent out of shape over it, IMHO it's their issue. Personally, I don't care if the ratio is .1:1 or 100:1. If the vehicle suits your needs and you are happy with it, the rest doesn't matter.

One of my favorite cars of all time was my Ford Festiva. It was like 4 different colors, barely ran and the clutch was basically shot. However, having paid $100 for it, I was fearless when driving it because if it broke I didn't care. I NEVER had more fun in a car than I did in that one. It was the biggest dog when it came to power though because it had like 300k or something on the clock but holding it at redline, dumping the clutch at a red light and getting tire beside a 'Vette was priceless. They would look at me like I was insane because i'd be winding it out as hard as I could and they'd be idling away still outpacing me. :thumbsup:

Exactly why I love my two different color foxbody mustang. Cost was very low, fun as hell, and it gets washed when it rains. To me that is what a toy should be. Fun with minimal worries and stress. Don't lose one bit of sleep with the amount of money invested.
