My wife was sick in bed all weekend with a bad cold, now I think I'm its next victim. I've been trying to fight it all day, I drank some orange juice this morning, took a multi-vitamin with breakfast and I've been drinking enough water for a camel. But I'm still getting a runny nose and my throat is getting sore.

Whats the deal on that ecchina (sp?) stuff is it any good?

Orange juice, sleep, and trying my best to spread it to others.

Lots of soup and Earl Grey Tea

Keep warm..

and... hallucinating that im surrounded by playboy playmates dressed up as nurses usually helps me.. but that's just me

Actually, that Alka Seltzer effervescent stuff works really well. I haven't had a cold in years, so i don't know.

Zi-Cam. Use it at the first signs of a cold coming on. Just squirt the goo in your nose every 2 hours. You can find it pretty much anywhere they sell cold medicine.

Don't let the price scare you off - about $7/ bottle. I am just getting over a cold and the symptoms were mild and only lasted 2 or so days of discomfort. My entire office swears by it.

<- does not hold stock in Zi-Cam

Like at wall-greens I usually use ny/dayquil but I'll give this stuff a shot next time I get a cold. Thanks

Wash hands frequently, gargle with alcohol-based mouthwash at least twice daily.

I remember hearing that a medical journal recently published a report stating that it could not determine any beneficial effect from echinancea on symptoms of the common cold, although that study was on young children.

Dayquil, lots of water, and willpower. If you keep thinking about how crappy you feel, you'll just feel worse.

In boot camp, we were allowed to drink more water when we had a cold and that was it. I had a horrible cold for about 3 weeks, and still had to do PT, running, etc just like everyone else. Its all in your mind.

I don't use any of the "Cold Medicine" drugs like dayquill or whatever because they make me sleepy. If I get a cold I try to drink water like they made me in basic training-----

"If you're not pissing clear, you're not drinking enough. Down that cantene"

I also take a double dose of Vit. C. If my cold is also a sinus infection (read: headache) I will take a Goody's Powder if it affects my being able to work. I also end up eating a lot of soup, and taking as hot of showers as I can stand.

My uncle who is a crazed lunatic makes his own super-saturated saline solution, and snorts it up his nose when showering and swears it helps him clean out the pipes. I tried it ONCE and a-la Tom Hanks in Cast Away-----"Never Again".....

I find staying home, keeping warm, drinking lots of fluids, and rest are the best ways to shorten the length of a cold infection. If I "fight it" usually causes the recovery to take longer.

Tons of fluids.
Tons of sleep.
If you have some narcotics on hand, take them, but pace yourself so that you can be on them pretty much all the time until you are feeling better.
Eat a little more than usual, and a little healthier than usual too if I can.

No point of 'fighting' it. If you get sick you get sick.
No pills or other lame stuff. Let the body take care of it.

Lots of clear fluids, don't bundle up if you have a fever (it will only make it higher), vitamin C, sleep, Tylenol/Ibuprofen every 4-6 hours
