I am probably not refined enough to admire whatever was good about this movie. Perhaps some day I will get it...now Bridge on the River Kwai - that was a cool movie
There are plenty of overrated movies. Just because a movie is overrated, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. American Beauty. Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption (actually, most Tom Hanks movies and lately Spielberg movies are overrated IMHO). But I still like most of them.

It's good, but nowhere near the best movie ever like most people think... let alone top 10. Maybe I just can't get over the horribly corny death scenes. Like when the police captain gets shot in the head then continues to gag on his food for 5 seconds while flailing around. I mean, come on...

Kill Bill is so overrated it's not even funny. Although I have to see the third one now just to see what happens. Actually, most things Quentin Tarantino are overrated except for Pulp Fiction. I love that movie and can't get enough of it.

The character development is what makes it great. Each character has their own desires and follows their own personal interest, instead of following along with what makes a good story. To make a good story Puzo just put together a bunch of characters that, if they were real thinking feeling human beings, would end up making a hell of a story. The character development is then watched over by Vito and Michael.
I think you've got to read the book to really appreciate it. Then again I'm a really big fan, I ended up going to Sicily probably because of the movie

No I think it's good, don't get me wrong. I just don't get why people put it on such a pedestal. The story is and characters are great but I think there is a lot of overacting and corniness, too much for it to be a great movie.
