There are plenty of overrated movies. Just because a movie is overrated, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. American Beauty. Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption (actually, most Tom Hanks movies and lately Spielberg movies are overrated IMHO). But I still like most of them.

i just watched Lawrence of Arabia recently and thought it was great.

I agree with Donnie Darko, Figth CLub, The Big Lebowski, and Pulp fiction

I just thought of another overrated movie beyond Crash - Zoolander. Everyone seems to think that movie is hilarious. I find there are a few funny parts, but overall, it is just dumb and boring.

Kill Bill is so overrated it's not even funny. Although I have to see the third one now just to see what happens. Actually, most things Quentin Tarantino are overrated except for Pulp Fiction. I love that movie and can't get enough of it.

The Godfather.

It's good, but nowhere near the best movie ever like most people think... let alone top 10. Maybe I just can't get over the horribly corny death scenes. Like when the police captain gets shot in the head then continues to gag on his food for 5 seconds while flailing around. I mean, come on...

So this begs the question: what are your top movies of all time?

The character development is what makes it great. Each character has their own desires and follows their own personal interest, instead of following along with what makes a good story. To make a good story Puzo just put together a bunch of characters that, if they were real thinking feeling human beings, would end up making a hell of a story. The character development is then watched over by Vito and Michael.

I think you've got to read the book to really appreciate it. Then again I'm a really big fan, I ended up going to Sicily probably because of the movie

No I think it's good, don't get me wrong. I just don't get why people put it on such a pedestal. The story is and characters are great but I think there is a lot of overacting and corniness, too much for it to be a great movie.

I think it's one of those movies that didn't age very well.

Like at it's time when it came out, it was probably so amazing.

That's how I felt after watching Goodfellas. I saw it years after it came out (2 years ago for the first time) and I just didn't htink it was anything special. But this was after I had seen the Sopranos and what not and many other mobster movies.

Same thing with Dawn of the Dead original. I watched it for the first time after the remake, and it was awful. I fell asleep through it.

I also don't think Scarface is that great either. Another one that at it's time was completely badass, but when you watch it now it's nothing special.

Forgot about Spiderman. I've tried watching it, but it can never keep my attention. And let me tell you, I 'love' watching B-movies so I'm not that retarded. Somehow I always manage to see the Macy Gray 'scene' whenever it's on TV.

Another HUGE one for Crash. "That there ma'am, is GASOLINE!" "OH PLEASE DONT PULL ME OUT OF THIS 500 DEGREE INFERNO MR TERRIBLE WHITE COP WHO TOUCHED MY THIGH... I'D RATHER SIT HERE WHILE MY SKIN AND HAIR MELTS!" Give me a effin break.

That and The Godfather. If I hadn't read the book, it might have been better, but the book was far superior. Fight Club suffered the same fate, although it did a good job of trying to mimic the feel of the novel.

id have to agree with those. i didnt see forrest gump until about a year ago, after being told i was missing out for a long time after it came out. it was on cable so i watched it. not a horrible flick, but not a rave like those freaks kept blathering about. american beauty sucked. just didnt like it. kill bill will kill a few hours of my time, but it wasnt nearly as good as its hype. i liked pirates of the carrib tho. good flick.

I saw Flags of Our Fathers the other day and I was not impressed. The cut scenes back and forth between the present and past got annoying after a while. The acting was OK, but it wasn't anything special in my opinion. The first beach landing scene could have come from Saving Private Ryan except for the lack of bullets.

I can't understand why it got all the praise it did at the awards shows.

Pretty much anything that is "Award winning" makes the list, many of the movies no one has heard of.

I know we are to list 1, but I could not pick between Star Wars (frist 3) and Lord of the Ring. I can watch both (Though Lord of the Ring is a stretch) but neither lived up to these great epic films. The hype was way to big for them.

There are plenty of movies I hate, and plenty I love (I did build my own theater to watch movies in, so obviously I enjoy them), but these two trilogies will most likely stay out of my collection.

A note on varying tastes in movies; A movies should be entertaining and enjoyable. Everyone can hate it, but if you enjoy it that is all that matters. The problem with the overhyped movies is usually someone is trying to make some big point, and critics want to be associated with movies that make "a major impact" on society. That is great and all, but sometimes I just want to see sh*t blow up.
