63, I'm guessing because there's no gym or movie theater in reasonable walking distance.

if it weren't for driving to see my friends/family, though, I could reasonably give up my car and do just fine (though I'd be paying more for groceries since the local stores are a lot more expensive and have lower quality meat/produce than the big grocery store a town over)

40? BS.. too high. they don't take into account the climate which makes walking more than a half mile just stupid for 6 months of the year

Anyone who is anyone lives on the California coast, so it's not an issue.

Also, my score was bullshit: 35.
Its much more walkable than that. If people around here dont walk its cuz they dont want to out of laziness or cold weather or political reasons such as mine.

is it just me? I was thinking about "walkability" as in walking away from your mortgage obligation....

3rd on the list (Boston). 82/100 for my neighborhood. I'm a 10 minute walk from Harvard Square, a 10 minute walk from downtown allston (and thus about 50 bars & restaurants & theaters). I love the location where I am. My apartment isn't in great condition, but I live on a quiet side-street near all this stuff, so I don't want to move

People bitch way too much about walking. It takes me roughly an hour each morning to walk to work. Then I either walk or run home. It's really not that far, but whenever I tell people I do this walk, they're always surprised. They're also generally sedentary pigs.

83 out of 100 — Very Walkable
That's without taking the fact I live by 2 major transit lines, and 3 Major Bus routes.

I'd give it a 10/100 because you'd most likely get shot if you tried to walk anywhere past 10PM.

86, but not sure how it could be much better.

If you look here there is a pathway all around the water, there are parks nearby and everything else you could want:

if it were up to me i would give it around a 94.

woohooo! My score: 0 i win. Zip 14714
that means, when i walk, i see deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits. I hear birds whistling, streams flowing. Since half your lifetime is spent around where you live, my spot is peaceful. Who cares if the grocery store is across the street - i pick the groceries up on my way home from work. I generally don't drive on the weekend either, but i frequently go for a walk. At night, most of the time you cannot so much as hear a car, even off in the distance.

So, i lose on being able to walk to the grocery store, liquor store, restaurant, etc. But, the quality of my walks are much nicer.

WTF, ATL is 22.

Maybe if you want to get stabbed, then walking is a good idea around here.

Where I used to live in downtown Denver is very walkable at 90. Where I live now is entirely unwalkable. I'm surprised it even scored a 20.

It's reasons like that I miss living downtown...but I really love my house.

15.

i'm pretty close to goddamned everything. downtown is less than ten miles, airport is less than five. anything i generally would need to live is 1-3 miles, maybe. i really wouldn't want to live any closer to anything.

do you people live in the shadow of big box stores or what?

highrise apartments maybe?

Mine is 0 as well! Grew up on 40 acres and wouldn't have it any other way. Thing is, it's only 4 miles outside of town (smaller 8,000 pop.) that is right on the interstate. It's only 40 miles to Minneapolis and 30ish to St. Cloud. Definitely easy to deal with if something is needed in either direction.
