Attention ATOTers, you could find some money laying around in there.

I wish I did keep my original NES system, still working, along with the robot and the game (can't remember the name but it was not a very good game), with the box, manual, light gun, and Duck Hunter game. Over $300 on eBay from the article.

And I still remember the old IBM PC in the early 80's.

I still have a NES out in my garage...maybe, might have sent it the last local electronics recycling event.

I've got an Atari 2600 and at least 20 games sitting in a box somewhere. Might be worth trying to get rid of it.

And people thought I was crazy to keep my original 4 GB iPhone with the original box, papers and everything it came with.

I also have a 5 GB original iPod but don't have the original box or anything with it. I do have the original charger, firewire cables and so forth though.

Plan to sell them in 30 more years for stupid money

Heh, one more reason to keep my 7 year old flip phone. Can't wait to tell my kid. I embarrass him with my old type technology.

If you have something brand new in box, it's worth money. Otherwise it's basically junk.

Anything that was produced in the tens of millions or more is never going to be that valuable (original nes, ipod/iphone). Certainly not enough that it's worth the hassle of storing it for decades.

Vintage: 2001 (iPod), 2007 (iPhone), 2010 (iPad)

High, unopened-box prices on eBay: $4800 for a 5GB iPod, $4000 for a 4GB iPhone, $343 for a 16GB iPad

Yea, certainly not worth the hassle of the small storage space they require.

My iPhone is easily worth $2000 today because its in perfect condition and includes everything you would receive it just isn't unopened which cuts that price in half.

My iPod is worth about $1000 on eBay last I looked since I don't have the original box and things. But I have pretty much everything else.

I used to work for a liquidation company in the Bay Area that specialized in selling off excess equipment, products, and any unwanted electronics/devices companies wouldn't want. They would host the more expensive stuff on a consignment auction, and the rest would either be sorted and scrapped for metal, or "purchased" by the company for Ebay reselling. At first I thought all the old tech shit and 1980's science stuff wouldn't sell, but you would be amazed at how much of that old junk (some of them labeled broken) that sells to foreign countries and even some in the US. They had an insane amount of sales, and had a large problem listing items fast enough to sell them.

They specialized in lab/test equipment and related tools (smc valves, etc), but we would get tons of old apples, 1990 video cards, etc. All of that stuff sold within a year.

New iPhone 1 is £230 on UK eBay, £170 if you check completed sales.

I have to tell people this all the time (especially from Craigslist).
It's not what people ASK for, it's what people GET that determines the value.

This simple concept is not grasped by many, many, many people who try to sell their used goods.

But yet my original Millenium Falcon, X-Wing and Tie Fighter are not worth any more than I paid from them in '79=80. What a crock of sh*t. I do have the box for the Falcon, but sadly both the radar dish and the chess board were lost among the debris of my junk.

All of that together in the 80's probably cost more than $300 present day.
