It seems that higher temperatures is a natural result of squeezing more speed out of silicon. Even if designers find ways of reducing power usage, overclockers know that more speed equals more heat.

Then there's the issue of fan noise the tolerance for which I personally have surpassed my limit .

Based on that premise and the continuing design improvements for water cooling systems, will there likely be a time when water cooling will become mainstream for power users/enthusiests?

Do you think water cooling will require a more powerful power supply and how much more?

Please express your opinions and add what experience you have with water cooling?

Just to complete the issue, do you have opinions on the current crop of water cooling products?
Please add links to help others who are contemplating moving to WCing.

Regards to all.

No, water cooling won't be the standard for the future. First, it cost way to much for everyone, the hobbiest and the OEM. Second, too big and bulky compared to air. And most people are ignorant and stupid when it comes to computers, imagine what would happen if they accidently cut a tube.

A poll with "yes" or "no" choices is too limiting. I'm polling with an open ended format for any comments or feedback, but you can answer only with yes or no if you'd prefer.
Edit: Perhaps this title makes more sense.

I'm saying no, smaller processes and change in architecture will com ebefore water cooling.
The Banias processor is one example, as are notebooks in general.
I'll accept that they are worse performing than desktop PC's, but the principle is there.
They have increased in speed/power as time has gone on, and yet they still run quite cool, and nowadays battery life seems to be getting even longer (partly the batteries themselves), but there is the chance that things will just reduce in heat output, or hit a level, but in desktops you don't have to work to heat/power constraints, yet, so people don't bother.

Hope that makes sense, to sum up:
We don't need excessive cooling in notebooks, so we won't need it in desktops. When we get close to watercooling levels, companies will design things differently so it's never needed.

I agree water cooling is to complex and expensive for the average user to deal with. I think that peltier cooling may be the next big thing if they can overcome the problems with it.

I'd say that processors will just be made to run cooler as it is required. Transmeta is already making 1ghz proceessors that producec like 5% the heat of a 1ghz PIII.

nothing new has become of it, it's still too much of a risk imo for PCs.

Water cooling is getting more maintream you can even by a kit a CompUSA.

The cavaet is that you can do it so much better for 1/3 rd the cost and a little knowlege.

The best block is the LRWW made by Cathar and the EVO made by Neomoses Here.

Cathars is the best but hes not makeng them anymore and the people who are, have not advertised them yet.

A simple copper heater core from a car is probably the best Radiator you can find and is about 20 dollars.

A effective pump can be as cheap as 20-25 dollars

Around 100-150 dollars buys some very impressive cooling.

Overclockers.com forums are chock full of information!! Read the stickies er F.A.Q.s

I use the Aquarius from Thermaltake and it's actually really easy to put in. Took me a about 20min. and I was up and running. I think if you like to fix up cars and stuff this is a piece of cake for you. I personally think they should design some better force induction kits to go along with this water cooling kit. Yes it's a bit on the pricey side but it's all about being extreme.
