I hate them because they ruined so many companies that made my favourite games, ive said this before many times but ive learned of a few more reasons that EA sucks IMO. Ive just read EA's wiki.... god damnit... just look at the criticisms bit! I knew they were a terrible company but damn, i never knew about half the stuff in there, they even tried to edit wikipedia to their own ends, how can people still give money to this company?? I dont get it, why havent then gone bankrupt already why do they have the money to continue to buy out everything where the hell is the cash coming from!?

So anyways what do you think of EA? Any fans out there? If so why?

I don't hate them, but it seems like every company they take over steadily turns to shit.

Occasionally they still produce a decent game (C&C3 wasn't bad, it just wasn't that good)

Their problem is that their bottom line is profit instead of game quality. They don't care if the game is good. Yeah, every company is out to make profit, but EA doesn't care about their products at all; they'd rather produce crappy half-finished games than make a collection of excellent games that will survive the test of time. Technically that's a money-making strategy, but as a gamer I wish they'd FOAD

Hate EA....but I still wound up buying Crysis because of Crytek and CNC3 because of supposedly 'keeping the Westwood team' ...isn't Spore in the clutches of EA aswell? I will be buying that so it may be ironic they're still in one way or another getting my money ....but I sure as hell don't buy their other crap they make in house.

They're okay. I can think of better publishers as well as worse ones, not just in terms of the game quality but also support (i.e. patches) and DRM usage. The last few EA games I've played have actually been very good though.

EA is no worse than most other publishers. They're ok, and I'll keep buying their games as long as they have good developers (see Crytek for example) making them.

Take EA's wanting to take over GTA IV. They are willing to fuck up all of the preorders, the news coverage with everyone raving "APRIL 29TH OMGZ!", television ad's etc... They are willing to take all that public support, forcefully jam a bunch of money down Take-Two's throat, and buy out the expectations of the millions of players, so they could wait another 6 months just so they could have time to fuck it up and make a bunch of money... Excuse my french..

EA ruins the progression of gaming...

EA has been making efforts on same fronts to improve, but overall, I hate giving them money.

The only good major publisher was Interplay / Black Isle Studios, one can see what happens when one is not out to constantly screw gamers by ruining companies / franchises.

Atari / Infogrames, Atari, Vivendi (or whoever screwed up Sierra).... dislike them all.

Exactly. Every publisher cares more about money but the amount that they care more about money as opposed to game quality is where it counts in the end. EA leans far too much to one side. I do admit I hate them, but I also recognize how some of their methods could potentially help out the small fry developers. I have yet to see enough positive results to really be convinced that it is even close to being worth it though.

I've stopped buying EA games. Occasionally I'll try the demo, but invariably I hate it. Last EA game I bought was NFS: Carbon for PS2, which I no longer play (got a Wii). And actually I didn't even buy it - I got it as a Christmas gift.

If I were ever to buy another EA game, it'll be used. I'm considering getting a NFS game for my Wii just because those are basically the only racing games available for it, but I would never give EA money by buying one of their games new.

I would tolerate them a bit more if they'd let me skip their freaking stupid logo at the beginning of games.

I'm very, very happy that these things aren't mutually exclusive. High quality is also a moneymaking strategy because happy customers coming back and buying the next game you make is worth a lot. Just look at Blizzard.

I don't hate EA. They are free to do business the way they want. Still, I think they're holding back gaming as a whole. Every non-innovative, low quality game they manage to sell (and they manage to sell a lot) eats the market from good games and makes gaming look less meaningful to an occasional gamer. I haven't bought a single EA game, ever, and I used to be quite a C&C fan up to RA. It hasn't been intentional up till now - e.g. I looked at Tiberian Sun and Generals and made the no-buy decision strictly because they were crap - but now I'm not sure I want to support their way of business even if they make an average-decent game, if it's the same sequel-churn as before. I might potentially buy Crysis or Spore.

The only thing they did that really pissed me off was drop Madden prices to compete with that other football game, then got an exclusive NFL license, and jacked the price back up to $50-60. Not a fan of the monopoly crap.

But otherwise I don't hold any special grudge against them. They just seem to be the company it's cool to hate.

Ive also stopped buying their games, i used to think people that did that were missing out, but there are other means of playing their games without giving them a cash reward for all their years of neglect towards their workforce and studios in general. The last game i bought from EA was crysis. Valve, blizzard, rockstar, relic, hell any company that makes good games has got my support. Im not helping EA any more though, they are destroying gaming imo.

Heh well theres 1 person here who loves EA in the poll and 17 who hate. Looks about right tbh.

Not a big fan of EA anymore, but I used to love them for all of the NHL games back in the day (the good years like 95).

I still have friends that work and make a very good living there, so I take every opporunity I can to rag on them though. Plus I send them things like this: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20050218 just to grind their gears.

They're the "company it's cool to hate" for a very good reason. You already mentioned locking in exclusive sports licenses, but my favorite gripe is their implementation of multiplayer features. For example, I've owned/played several of the NFS series, and in most of them, EA doesn't allow direct connection MP - you've got to go through their servers. This wouldn't be so bad except they take down the server when a game gets too old, essentially disabling MP. What's even worse, they continue to sell these games, including on their own site, with no mention that MP is no longer supported. Why not just allow people to connect directly, instead of trying to force them to upgrade to the latest version of the series?

If they produce good titles that I like I'll buy from them. CNC3, Burnout Paradise, and Crysis are all games that I thought were excellent despite the EA name. Generally they just produce total junk like Sims repeats but there are a few good titles mixed in there.

Some of the games they made sucked, like BF2142, and all their sports titles. NFS Most Wanted was good, but the series has been going downhill since.

Give it more time. They are buying out almost all of their competition. You will notice more and more games losing quality for that reason. Combine that with their piece of shit DRM and their terrible history you got all of the reasons you need to hate them.

TBH It seems like EA is actually trying to change their ways now. I've had a lot of problems with them in the past, but I have hopes that they'll actually use their money to support developers instead of looking at it as a way to more profit. Personally I'm waiting for Warhammer Online, I'm surprised EA allowed them to delay it for such a long time to polish it. In the past I would've expected EA to just push it out.

This thread actually made me go and look at all my PC game boxes.

Looks like Crysis is the first EA game I've bought in a very long time. Most of my recent purchases have been Take Two/2K stuff (BioShock, Oblivion, and a couple GTAs) so I guess I should be bummed out if EA's takeover bid is successful
