What's your power options settings?

hard disks: 2 hours

standby: 1 hour.

Someone told me that standby time should be in between the other two. But does it make a difference really?

If you're running Distributed Computing projects (and you should be...for Team AnandTech), the hard disks should never be shut off.

My settings...
Monitor: 15 mins
Everything else: never

your monitor is the biggest power drain, you should change that to between 5-15mins.

hard disk is so minimal you may as well leave it on.

Does Standby also turn off monitor and disks? If not what does it do actually?

Standby turns off practically everything, except the memory, which is powered to maintain the state of the system (thus allowing it to resume quickly when needed). If you have any programs running (a 3D rendering, DC application, or downloading app), they will be forced to stop, and will not be able to get any work done until the computer resumes.
