72 is average. It's pretty easy to get it into the mid-60s with only moderate exercise a few times per week.

Lol, just checked my pulse and it was 72 BPM. Not great for my age, but considering I was in the mid-80s less than a year ago I'd say I've been improving. Also had my blood pressure checked yesterday, 122/81

52-54. And that's with me not really doing much except playing basketball once a week. Lowest I ever was during hard core distance training (70+ miles a week running) was around 48.

I'm just a bit of a freak when it comes to pulse and BP. I run at like 90/60 for my BP. I frequently get light headed if I stand up too fast.

Just checked and mine is 62. Would have thought it'd be higher. Just sitting at a computer desk all day, though.

LOL now that I'm on BP medication, I get light headed if I stand up fast with normal BP. I suspect it's because my body is too used to having a much higher BP.

Orthostatic hypotension. Happens to me every once in a while. Last time I checked my BP it was 102/58.

Have you told a Dr. about this?

I'm a runner and old so it's 48. Used to be low 40's but I had my ankle/fibula re-broken and plate put in recently so I have not ran in a month and a half. Working around it through with "elliptical" BS but nothing is like running outdoors. It's amazing how fast I have gotten "out of shape" years of hard work to get here and I bet I'd be over 300 lbs again in 6 months.

I was 320 at one time when I was 31 and pumping through at about 90 BPM. Heart attack waiting to happen.

Huh? I hate running and staying in shape with weights and elipticals/biking is easy.

It does not work for me like running. Might have something to do with mass. I move 245 around. Might be I get bored. Might be I get dizzy on treadmills and elliptical but I can't get into it. I love running outside. Especially when it's 100 degrees - it's murder but I feel great afterwords and it seem to get best results of anything I tried (save HS wrestling but that was a long time ago)

Isn't your weight exactly why you can't run anymore? Human joints are not built to move 250lbs around for extensive periods of time.

I'm still using the university gym. No matter how old I get, them college girls are all the same age and legal.:sneaky:

Except for the eye candy, I would rather be on the mtn bike and I do like the heat, too.

He's actually pre-hypertensive.

Blah, you're correct

I thought that 120/80 was supposed to be the norm, but apparently it's the upper bound of normal. Ugh, at least it's lower than it was a year ago.

No. My dad is 72 and still runs 4x a week albeit slowing. My problem is I broke 14 bones in an accident in my early 20s. (also explain why I became a lard body and alcoholic at one time...when legs don't work I just went to bars feeling sorry for myself and continued to feast w/o working out...bad combo) I Compounded Femur tibia and fibula (among other things) and doctor failed to plate the fibula with other hardware he put in. This lead to fibula being off alignment and it was painful to run always but I dealt with it until it became unbearable and was effecting my routine so I had it worked on.

I'm almost 40 and never had a knee problem or any bio mechanical problem like that. Just broken bones.

Video of surgery.
