You sound like you use supplements. Eg. Steroids and other boosters such as uppers to jack yourself up when working out either before or after. A whatever it takes and I need something to give me an edge or something to take the edge off.
Why? Caffeine works just fine if you're not an addict...guilty and I don't care.:colbert; If you're not, 2 caffeine pills before cardio make your time/effort a lot better experience. Read an article that said you could get up to a 15% boost in endurance. No strength benefits but feeling like a boss after an hour riding is a very good thing.

How are you guys getting it so low? Is it certain medications that do that?

Eating health-promoting foods (mostly whole fruit and vegetables, limited processed foods) and regular cardiovascular exercise. low heart rate is an indicator of cardiovascular system efficiency. A low heart rate along with the low end of normal blood pressure indicates a fairly healthy cardiovascular system with an efficient heart. A low heart rate along with a higher blood pressure indicates a efficient heart, but a possibly compromised cardiovascular system. The high blood pressure can be due to dietary causes or genetic.
Skinny people with a low heart rate die of cardiovascular disease every day. Low side of normal blood pressure, reasonable heart rate, and low LDL panel (55 or lower) and your risk of cardiovascular disease is so low that it effectively isn't possible to have cd.

Pretty damn slow. I have tried to measure it, I'm guessing 50. I think it tends to decrease with age, I heard recently. I'm talking super resting, i.e. lying in bed in the morning when I wake up.

Well this ain't right. I hope you get on this soon. Later might be too....

Had an echo done a couple of months ago because of a previous chest xray...anyway, no enlarged heart, evacuation efficiency 59%. 55 is normal. Had a conversation with the Dr about my heart rate vs efficiency. Thought I should be higher than average. Short answer, don't know but probably has to do with the body's ability to use O2 over a stressed period of time. So no stress, less O2 needed.

I just measured it (# of beats in 15 secs, x4) and got: 76. I'm sitting at a desk at work (developer). I think that's about average for me. I'm sure it's fast compared to others but I've always had a fast heart rate. I remember in high school we took our heart rates in statistics class and mine was in the 70s too, I'm almost positive. It can be even faster when I go in for my yearly physical but they've never said anything about it so meh. I wonder if there's a correlation between that and my skinny ass ectomorph body (fast metabolism I assume). Calories in also counts but I wonder if that does too.

EDIT: Just realized the topic was "resting heart rate" which I think is laying in bed before you get up. I'll have to remember to try that; I'm curious myself.

I was curious and checked mine in bed when I woke up from my alarm and was still half asleep. Clocked it at like 55. Probably lowest I've seen it. It's actually 60 right now which is actually low for me, I'm usually around 70. I just had my first coffee in over 24 hours though, I'll test it again in a few hours to see if it goes up.

I think mine's about that. But every time I try to measure it ... it doesn't work out. I figure what's it matter? I had an EKG a 2-3 months ago followed by a stress test EKG. I was completely normal.

I have a low heart rate and low blood pressure. I smoked for 40 years, eat whatever I like, don't exercise other than work, drink coffee, avoid medication like the plague (except ibuprofen, old guys in construction get hurt a lot), and have a high stress job. I also have a long history of low level inflammation from a trashed knee. I don't know why my heart works at all. My cardiologist was surprised as well, he and two other doctors told me I was going to need a pacemaker, they did a bunch of tests, said I was fine and sent me home.

You were the chosen one! Just like Anakin, your potential was squandered! You could have been the most powerful Jedi evar!

Joking, of course. Just having fun. Genetics really are a large part of health.
