When a girl says she needs some space.....what do you think?

The whole thing is a long story but heres just the short version:

Buddy dated this chic long time ago (5years), bumped into each other about 8 months ago been dating since.Girl moves an hour and a half away been there for about 4 months and will more than likely coming home for summer but things not goin so well they been fighting alot and having arguements and stuff annyyywaayyyy.He told her they gotta talk, he says somethings gotta change,she says "i dont wanna lose you blah blah", he says what you wanna do,she says i think we need some "space".....

So he told me that I said thats a girls way of breaking things off as polite as possible and with the least amount of fuss and/or harsh feelings.He said "no no" she really just needs the time to think and I say well if she really said she doesnt wanna lose you then why does she need this "space"?

So what do you guys think?From view thats what chics pull and heck even I've pulled a time or 2 cuz when you talk again in a few weeks its always like "well its just not the same anymore" yadda yadda.....

Sometimes girls are so worried about hurting the guy's feelings, they go through these measures of stringing the guy along until he FINALLY gets it. I think girls should just be more upfront and tell the guy she no longer wants to drive his stick shift.
