When are the A7V266 (Via KT266) and/or A7A266 (ALi MagiK1) coming?

Damn it! I want a SocketA board that will take SDRAM or DDR and support the next gen SocketAs. And I want it tommorow (Patient aren't I?)

Probably the A7V266..though I'm not a big Via fan...my Super7 board was an ALi chipset and it was excellent for me....but I think Via is probably the number 1 for Athlon chipsets, so I probably want to lean towards the A7V266.

Does anyone know when I'll be able to get my grubby little fingers on one of these?

The A7A is not shipping yet. I just ordered the Iwill KA266 R. It uses the Ali chipset. I was interested in a Asus board but the A7V seemed to be not very good (no multiplier adjuster and that Via 686b southbridge crappola). The A7A will use the Via v-link chipset which will hopfully be better, but I could not wait.

I just put a system together based on the ASUS A7M266 board. This is a sweet board, I had no problems, not even a single glitch. I know there is a bunch of rumors out there right now about this board, but Asus is a reputable company, and I have a hard time beliveing that they will just end support alltogether for one of their boards. I do wish that it was asynchronous (sp.?), but other than that, no problems.

Yeah I've considered A7M266 but I want SDR and DDR on the board.

I don't want to buy DDR RAM yet...

I've seen so much speculating about the release of this board that its starting to get to me. Why can't companies put out release dates like the companies for video games do...so I can go to the store the EXACT day it ships. That would be so much better then tons of us on this board asking each other. I don't think anyone really knows the release date, it may be late April, who knows.

Huh? You must mean A7V133.. that has the 686B southbridge.... and it DOES have multiplier... in fact it has both DIP switches or jumperless. All KT133A boards use the 686B southbridge.

Unless you mean A7M266 (AMD 760 chipset) Then that doesnt have multiplier... I dont think any AMD 760 board has it infact.

I bought an A7V266 (and they say it'll be coming in within a couple of days). Dunno if it's legit or not. :\

It's not even announced by Asus yet. Not even at CeBit. It has me worried.

A7V266??? You mean A7A266 right? I was under the impression the KT266 didn't ship en masse until mid april...(or was it mid-march...but mobo manufacturers would still have to put it in boards)

Exactly what I thought at first. But after talking to the store owner, the lady said that they'll refund my money if it isn't based on the KT266.

And btw, the KT266 chips have been shipping en masse since mid January. Look at Via's site.

Also, no, they don't have a website. I don't have a scanner to scan in the advertisement. I'll just say that the ad does say A7V266 and it's the most expensive motherboard they have. It makes sense yes?

If it fails horribly in performance, then I've just wasted a $2500 DDR system as it'll bottleneck EVERYTHING.

Also, regarding the mobo makers having to put the actual chips in, I figured that too. That's why I'm still so surprised that I've officially bought an A7V266.

I phoned them up earlier to see the status of the A7V266. They say it's on backorder right now. Ha, yeah right. Go figure. ;P

It's in Toronto though.

Union Computers. 2107 Yonge Street (I think!). It's right at the corner of Eglington and Yonge St., which is north of the Downtown core. They're not friendly.

Edit: For all people in Toronto (or near it), I wouldn't recommend buying anything from them until they finally ship me that board. I'll post a new topic once/if I get my A7V266 this week.
