When did RAM prices start going up?

Holy cow! Looking for a 4gb (2x2gb) kit and they're going for like $30 on the egg. Did I miss something? lol I got the email for the coupon code but still. I was expecting to pay only $20 + tax/shipping.

They've been creeping up over the past few weeks. It's hard to find a 16GB set for under $100.00 now, it's like $110.00 and up.

Not sure what it going on. The Dollar has risen quite a bit against foreign currencies lately, I would have expected prices on RAM to go down, not up.

I hadn't realized prices were going up. The last time I bought RAM was during that Hot Deal for the Samsung sticks that were going for liek $12/stick. That was super cheap only 3 mos ago. Crazy.

Demand was weak last year, but RAM makers still produced a lot of them in anticipation of Win 8 boosting demand, but instead that actually dropped and everyone is cutting back production.

NE had the same 2X4GB set of Crucial value 1333 RAM 'on sale' for something like $53 the past few days...

Makes me wish I hadn't given away my 2X4GB set of Sniper a few months ago to a friend of mine...

look in my sig... I was building PCs when those were new. I actually remember my first new PC which used 72 pin simms, I had to pay like $140 each for a couple 16MB sticks. but I had tons of ram when I did! This was 1996. I had built my first NEW computer, an AMD 486-133MHz. I paid $130 for a 630MB seagate HDD.

That's the reason why bought so much ram before. Last year I got 26 gigs in sticks for exact $100

And, in addition to all the other production, etc., reasons, the value of the dollar and other currencies has been going down. That alone will cause international prices to adjust.

IOW, a given amount of money is worth less this year than it was last year.

LOL yea I def. don't remember those days. I think when I started building RAM was like $70 for 128gb sticks. Can't remember exactly. It was about 2001 when I started really getting into building/playing on a pc.

Hasn't it always been like this though? Ram prices rise in the winter and fall in the summer, or the other way around.

they did this way back in the days for sdram. The problem was the fine was small compared to what the gained via the collusion.

Noticed this as well. I got 8GB end of last year really cheap, went to get another 8 and it was almost twice as much.

12 months from now we'll see reports of price fixing and massive fines.

i bit the bullet and bought 2 8x2 sodimm kits and a 4x2 sodimm kits.. 16gb was around 98 and 4x2 was 50 off newegg. Dont wanna buy these when the prices double or something later on..

i think it really started with the tsunami in Japan, after that one, when some of the largest HDD makers in the world were flooded, HDD prices were also almost doubled in price in the weeks / months afterwards
