Rock didn't die, it branched out.

EDIT: The other two I get, but what happened June 6, 1996?

Is it dead? I hear good stuff every so often. Commercial radio eats shit. as do most people's taste in music, but there's good rock around.

There's a stunning amount of music one can access in this day and age. Popular music may not be your bag, but you should be able to find good stuff out there. You just have to work at it.

It either died at the end of the 90's or early 2000's. It certainly didn't die in the 90's man, all I listened to was rock back then. It certainly morphed but to surmise it died is absurd.

I like a lot of new music, not that dance beat beat stuff whatever it's called.. but even that, some of it's good. But music like the sound track from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Brilliant stuff.

But I think the rise of music videos directly correlates with the decline and fall of rock bands. I blame michael jackson, if I remember he sued to be allowed to have his videos shown on MTV, next thing you know, bands are out, dancers are signed to be solo performers... auto tune, look and image more important then music. douche bags like Simon cowel holding all the strings etc.

But I see creativity coming back with the rise of You tube and music creation technology. singer song writers can become successful without a label contract. They can sell their album on amazon or even have their own online store and pay pal it. Same with novelists, they can just release an e-book and do quite well.

Technology and the internet is taking out the middle man.

Check out this remake of Led Zeps Immigrant Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bD4ts8eWY&feature=related

Dude if anything, rock is the most alive it's been in over a decade.

The Hold Steady, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket, The Whigs, Japandroids, Jack White's annually changing musical group, Florence +The Machine (yes, she rocks), Gaslight Anthem...and that's just off the top of my head.

So rock never died, it just went on hiatus.

I'm wondering why the OP did not include 4/19/2002. I guess he's not a real rock fan :|

nickelback was already charting when staley died.

november 23, 1993 was the release date of the spaghetti incident?

LOL at Flo and the Mechs as "rock". I just wish she could sing in key :|

But yes, there are plenty of "rock" groups out there.

Yeah you had GNR with that style '89 + Bleach /Seattle Sound coming out + Pretty Hate Machine coming out '89. That all started changing the '80s shitty rock. Most of the Seattle bands though started out in the early '80s Including Alice in chains ,Soundgarden , Mudhoney etc.
