The Scorpions ring a bell?
Yes, but not hard rock/metal.
The Scorpions ring a bell?
Who knew the Netherland would be the epicenter of a metal revival.
You should check out the stuff both Arjen and Devin Townsend have done with Anneke Van Giersbergen.
Hard rock, yes, metal, no. Not interchangeable terms.Yes, but not hard rock/metal.

AutotuneTechnology killed good music in general. We have the tech to make the most advanced sounds imaginable and we have shit music now..
Arjen and Anneke did another side project together called the Gentle Storm that is absurdly good.Aye, I love everything Anneke Van Giersbergen has ever done, Especially her work with The Gathering back in the 90s (Saw them at Milwaukee Metalfest), and also her work with Daniel Cavanagh. I am a fan of Devin Townsend as well, though I will admit, I have an order of magnitude more appreciation for Arjen & Annekke.

Saw the Gathering live in Europe when I was stationed there. Somehow managed not to see Rammstein live, but did discover Lacuna Coil at a sh!t bar in Frankfurt.
It's a double edged sword... what you said is true, but without the internet I wouldn't have seen your recommendation for Greta Van Fleet (which I've been playing all 4 songs from their EP on a loop since you mentioned it). Also because of the internet, I was able to boot up the google play music app that I subscribe to and listen immediately.
Sure the internet can cause problems, and I do believe that streaming services have devalued good music a bit, however I'd also say I've had a net gain with finding music because of the internet so I'm happy. There's some weird shit I ended up liking that I wouldn't have found without it. Back in the day, I only found out about something when everyone else heard about it too.
Rock is a very general term as it spanned multiple decades. Elvis is the King of Rock. When you compare Jailhouse Rock/Hounddog to 60's/70's rock, it's a much different picture.
I think it's still somewhat alive in Warren Haynes and David Grohl. I know those aren't the typical hard rock types, but they both are true rock performers....though Foo Fighters get coined as alternative rock. If you ever see Grohl play live...it's a different experience.....he's versatile and they try to make music that's radio-friendly...but knows how to rock hard live.
Warren Haynes is more of that crossover from the Allman Brothers band, but he has the guitar skills and stage presence to rock as hard or soft as the crowd wants to hear. Listen to Gov't Mule...they're still around.
Rock isn't dead, its just not mainstream anymore, which is fine by me.
Bands like Mastodon, Gojira, Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Ayreon, Volbeat and many others are still releasing some amazing rock.
If bluesy classic rock is more your thing, check out Greta Van Fleet, a band that is a bit AC/DC, a bit Skynard, a bit Aerosmith and a bit Zeppelin.
Try this on for sizeThank you. Greta Van Fleet sure sounds good. I tried to enjoy Killswitch engage a few months ago but after 20 seconds of that abominable horrible Holy diver cover i tuned out.
And every single one of their stations is crap.I'd say that US Congress relaxing rules on media ownership had more to do with it
" In 1992, the U.S. Congress relaxed radio ownership rules slightly, allowing the company to acquire more than 2 stations per market. By 1995, Clear Channel owned 43 radio stations and 16 television stations. When the Telecommunications Act of 1996 became law, the act deregulated media ownership, allowing a company to own more stations than previously allowed. Clear Channel went on a subsequent buying spree, purchasing more than 70 other media companies and individual stations.'
'With 855 stations, iHeartMedia(clear channel) is the largest radio station group owner in the United States, both by number of stations and by revenue. The 855 stations reach more than 110 million listeners every week, and 245 million every month. '

Shazam, FTWTHANK YOU. The local rock station has been playing a song that sounds like a modern Zeppelin. They don't broadcast artist/song over air so I've never caught what the band was. I really dig the song. Turns out it's Highway Tune by GVF.
Love this stuff. Black Stone Cherry is another southern rock sludge band I love. Their Kentucky album is really fun.
Don't worry guys, Nickelback and Creed will make their comeback.
