I'm pretty sure it's gonna be dx12. I think the real question is if it will only be dx12, and thereby require 64 bit windows 10. There will be corporate pressure to create dx11 and 32 bit versions to maximize sales, and that added complexity is gonna end up making the game worse overall.
Btw, the mantle bf4 give reduced cpu overhead for all gcn architectures afaik, but the shaders are optimized only for hawaii. So those are the only cards where you get cpu+gpu improvement.
Battlefront supports DX11. That one is settled. Also nobody would dare to do DX12 support before they actually see the installed Win10 base. And it will be very important for future development. Thats also why any pure DX12 games as Johan also writes would be holidays 2016. And even that would be very bold and optimistic.
DX11 runs faster with GCN 1.2 than Mantle in BF4 and Hardline btw.
As we briefly mentioned in our testing notes, our Battlefield 4 testing has been slightly modified as of this review to accommodate the changes in how AMD is supporting Mantle. This benchmark still defaults to Mantle for GCN 1.0 and GCN 1.1 cards (7970, 290X), but we’re using Direct3D for GCN 1.2 cards like the R9 Fury X. This is due to the lack of Mantle driver optimizations on AMD’s part, and as a result the R9 Fury X sees poorer performance here, especially at 2560x1440 (65.2fps vs. 54.3fps).
