Another reason DirectX is the better option for us all.

The better option is choice, fierce competition.

Even if the alternatives are not great, they have something to compare against and strive to surpass. And, sometimes, there's this outsider that creates something that surpasses the leading technology. Etc ...

Without competition, there's stagnation ...

We have been through 'competition' for 3D APIs and it was pretty horrible. I don't want to go back to that....

DX as a universal standard has been great. I would rather give-up a few % of performance rather than pick and choose titles because one API is broken for it vs. another.

Not in this case, in this case it would cause fragmentation which is exactly what PC gaming does NOT need. Choice is good, but not in that sense. I don't want to choose between PhysX and Mantle. I don't want to chose between G-Sync and Free Sync. I DO WANT to chose between AMD and nVidia without sacrificing features depending on what I choose.

So your saying we should just be happy with moderate drivers and equipment and lock everything down so no OC or optimizing and just be sure everything is stable and be happy with it?
(Facepalm).

MS drivers and API are universal and designed to be stable over performance.
The next DXs will always include some sort of legacy support or even command calls that various hardware MFG don't support and therefore are consider bloat and slow down.
Both AMD and Nvidia create there own drivers and overlaying API to optimize for performance.
Some games/programs just crash due to bad or outdated programming and the programmers not having all hardware in shop for program testing, But this has nothing to do with one or multiple APIs.

(Thumbs up) For NeoLux.

What?, Sounds like you want a Mac then.

BTW, Mantle is a API overlay and uses a physics engine, PhysX is a nitch physics engine specifically for Nvidia and that AMD sees no need to spend money on licensing to use.

I know the difference between Mantle and PhysX. I was providing analogies and examples of fragmentation and why I don't think it's a good thing. In other words. I can go with AMD and have Mantle and Freesync, or I can go with nVidia and have PhysX and G-Sync. I'd rather both brands have the same feature set and let me decide on which I like better based on price/performance. DX12 is a step towards that goal, especially if it causes Mantle to be of little to no significance which is what I suspect will happen.

I have a Mac, as well as a PC, I'm brand agnostic as far as that's concerned.
