When is Anandtech doing a review on the Killer NIC?

I wonder.... When is Anandtech is going to do a review on the Killer network card? It was recently released, but I haven't seen any trustworthy reviews on it yet.

My hunch is that it's a complete and total waste of $250, but I'd like to hear a professional review and some benchmarks to back that opinion up.

because not only is it a waste of $250, but anand (or whoever decides what to review) is smart enough to know it would be a waste of time to review it as well?

unless they convince Bigfoot to give them a nice wad of cash to review it.

I agree with mordant, I doubt it will ever be reviewed on anandtech.

edit: At least, I hope not.

I just hope that the major hardware review sites warn buyers about this product before they buy it. Right now it's hard to find any reviews at all on this card, and the few reviews that you CAN find seem to suggest that it actually works as advertised.

Here's a sample of a "good" review

it may work as advertised, but it shouldn't cost $280. the NPU runs for some reason at 400Mhz and the max use is around 20%. seems like a waste.

I hope that they do not review it.... AT forums got hit hard by viral marketing, stack that with a pointless product and you get something not worthy of review.

I think that some tweaking of your router does more for you online experience than a $250 NIC could do.

Now, a gaming router would be a much better idea. Something like that one that has a built in hard drive for torrents and stuff.

Some ppl have more money then sense. What I would like to know is why is the cost so high. Surely it doesn't take that much to make these cards. I don't see it going far at all.

probably more viral marketing, buy own product and post reviews heh

Well, I drew the short straw so I will be reviewing it. (insert sweating bullets Emotion) We purchased a retail card and also have a review sample (never hurts to double check on new product releases). For those wondering why we are reviewing a $280 NIC card, we are just as interested as anyone else in finding out if it works or not. I should be taking a nice long vacation in the Artic wastelands after I complete this review. Actually, we went into this with an open mind and an empty pocketbook, the review will be performance based with games on their suggested (at times optimized) play list and with games not on the list. We will also show results against the D-Link Gamer Lounge router, NV590 NIC, and utilize a few BitTorrent clients to verify prioritization capability along with other tests. Our main objective is to prove if the marketing claims about the card are true or not, nothing more, nothing less.

Well at least it sounds like you are going to do it right, which is great. Every 'review' up until now has been junk, so it will be nice to see some impartial benchmarks (no matter how ridiculous I think the card may be).

Any word on when the review will be ready?

I look forward to reading this. It would certainly shock a lot of us if the marketing stuff is true.

reading just the first review i'd agree with you. i can't see a 'killer nic' overcoming the latency problems of satellite internet.

Everyone hates me now, and it is wonderful. Lag spikes in Ironforge? Bah, who cares. Everyone else is standing still, and I have a latency of 25. And that's lagging for me. Everyone told me I didn't need this card with the satellite internet. And no, I probably did not, but hey, it made it faster. I went from 100-150 latency to 15-20! Isn't that what this card is supposed to be all about? Buy one. Now. Trust me. You will not regret it.

My husband bought me one of these after I started complaining about the framerates I was getting when I was playing WoW, D&D and CoH. This thing is better than any silly necklace or flowers he could have gotten me. I love this thing! All gaming is better with it. Now, make more programs for it!!!

This is not a purchase, this is an investment. The way this thing works is the future of gaming. You can basically make your own programs for it and it is very easy to do. This IS the gamer card

I never considered myself a gamer. I use the internet for my own buisness and I game on the side, so I can feel the difference in faster download and upload speeds. This thing has not only made a difference with what little online gaming I have, but my other internet uses as well.

are these people for real? regardless of whether the thing works or not these "reviews" scream viral marketing.

looks like people like it and think its worth the money.
" I went from 100-150 latency to 15-20! Isn't that what this card is supposed to be all about? "
even tho its alot of cash it seems to be worth the money

that would be called viral marketing. see my above post with all sorts of fantastic claims in newegg "reviews" for the killer nic.

I wonder inhowfar the claimed ping reduction etc. still applies to the apparently completely new VISTA networking stack.

i'd like to see it reviwed here...

sure its an expensive toy but if you got $250 to spare then why the hell not? i mean i've seen reviews that show a small but nonetheless tangible performance increase so it's not like adding a NOS sticker to your car and hoping it'll be faster... this thing actually makes it a tad faster...
