When is the new 8800GTS launch?

I have an 8800gtx , so i havent really been paying attention lately, since the 8800gt wasnt going to offer more performance.

I just figured i'd buy an 8800gt for my wifes pc, and keep my 8800gtx until next year.

But if theres a new 8800gts coming that will be an improvement over my 8800gtx , then id rather buy that and giver her my 8800gtx.

Problem is, its hard to find info with the crap naming scheme.
Typing in 8800gts in google doesnt exactly get me the desired results.

Heck i didnt even know there was going to be a new 8800gts until yesturday.
The only tid bit of info i know so far is HERE.

Any more info or links to info, would be greatly appreciated.
I wanna be sure im not wasting $$$$ buying her an 8800gt.

oh yeah... and about wasting $$ buying the GT... you could always buy the GT and do the step-up program if you think the new GTS suits you once it comes out... so it's probably not too risky to get the GT... but probably the best thing it to wait until Dec.

Any why no actual release date?
Heck with a release date in about 6-8 weeks away, we usually see leaked benches by now.


Her pc can wait until Dec., it doesnt bother me at all.

I was all ready to order her a gt, now im not so sure.

yeah i agree the benches are usually out by now... but the GT was a very odd launch as well... sort of released and benched in a very close timeframe... i think NVidia is a bit pressed for time here with trying to get in on the holiday action and the ATI release that coming... so they are sort of simul-releasing to the public and the consumer... lol

You mean you wouldn't give your wife the faster card? So much for richer/poorer better/worse sickness/health eh? LOL. J/K. No good information on the G92 8800GTS yet. just speculation.

Unless nVidia does something different with G92 GTS varient, I don't think it will perform much better than the GT. Were talking 10-15% tops... Who knows, maybe it will be more than 128 shaders... I am really waiting for the next high end so I can droped $600 and then cry when ATI releases a card 1 month after it that stomps it (joking, of course)

Erm, it's obvious the 8800gt launch if weird, nvidia planned on building up stock, but they released the card early, and now all e-tailers are out of stock, driving up prices along the way. And that's because of ATI who would be releasing their cards in about 2 weeks ...

Honey, you need a new graphics card to surf the web faster... It will really help when editing photos of the kids in photoshop... Meanwhile, you purchase that kick ass $500 video card and give her your lightly used $250 gamer card... Then, when she is gone for a few hours, you install some POS card and sell the card to your friend for $225. Quite honestly, any married man knows what I am talking about... Though this is an extreme example and I don't do this often, it DOES happen! Ha!

My wife is a huge gamer, she love FPS's and her x1900xtx isnt quite cutting it with the Crysis demo and is struggling to keep playing games at high resolutions.

And theres no fooling her, ive tought her too much, she knows the diffference between 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 and whether she has AA enabled or not....etc...etc..

Usually when her pc starts to struggle, she asks me when im buying a new card for my pc, since she knows i'll give her my old one.
And that way, she never has to pay for her own pc parts....LOL


Anyway, back on subject.

Since when does the GT not offer performance over the GTX? If you can OC it to 700/2000 there are benches where it gives same performance or with 3% of it - which you would never know the difference of 3%, hehe

Exactly, its close but its doesnt offfer performance OVER a GTX.
It offers performance NEAR the GTX.

I agree that the the GT is a WAY better deal for the $$$, but i already have a GTX, so i am curious what the new GTS's will do before i buy one or the other.

In some benches =! all benches, and who would seriously pay $280 for a couple fps in a couple games in a couple lab tests? Come on, don't be ridiculous.

By Christmas a bunch of new cards should be out, HOPEFULLY an actual high end card will be released, and the price of the 8800GT will be $200 like it's supposed to be. If it is, worst case you can SLI a couple GT's and get some intense performance for less than the price of the GTX. That is assuming ATI drops the ball again and has nothing substantial to offer the gamers, which would really make me sad.

Well, if it is December 3rd I dont think I want to wait that long. The 8800GT will do fine for my next build. I'll probably want to upgrade it later next year anyway when the real next gen cards come out. Thanks for that info, CM.

And the OC'ing debate can go on that you can also overclock a GTX...etc...etc...
They ran the Crysis demo at medium settings which is odd, and everywhere else the GTX pulls ahead of the GT in Crysis tests.

I wouldnt mind if it turned into a "new GTS" vs GTX thread though once benches are available.

Thee GT is still a WAY better deal than the GTX even at the current inflated GT prices...nobody is debating that fact.
You could buy two GT's for about the current price of a GTX, and nobody is foolish enough to consider a single GTX over two GTs. :thumbsup:

So can we stay on the topic of the new GTS and it performance and pricepoint.

Theres plenty of 8800GT info around already, so we all know its a great card already.
