you asked if I was ok with what Obama did. That's a pretty open ended question, and I answered it. Unless you choose to be more specific, realize that your open ended questions leave room for open ended answers. Maroon.
I was specifically talking about Obama's backroom deal with Big Pharma. Context...do you speak it?

I wasn't ok with it. What's your point? Was there a better alternative? Did republicans offer something better? Was status quo better? Are republicans trying to address this particular issue?
So what was your point exactly?

Main issue I have seen over the past few years (torn ACL) is that many of the people that work in healthcare have absolutely no clue as to what's going on. One of my family members works at an ortho doctor and is a staunch conservative. Kept telling me my new 'obamacare' wasn't going to cover it for this, that, and every other reason. So I went and read the laws. I'd assume their whole office is all wacked out, I went somewhere else no problem.

Don't know what kind of shitty plan you have, but my plan covers up to 9 pills a day of 200mg Chlorpromazine for only $10 a month, according to my insurance company website.

And here I thought under ACA everyone had to buy a minimum level of coverage which would not allow for "shitty" plans.

I don't know how your plan would cover it, anyone who takes that much Thorazine is really begging for TD.

That sounds about right for someone who has been properly diagnosed. Have you been properly diagnosed BirdDad? If so, your doctor should have an idea as to why you aren't being covered.

I have epilepsy, and I remember my doctor wanting me to try a new medication that didn't have a generic yet. The insurance company didn't go for it, so he gave me samples until we determined that it was not a good fit for me. The point is that I let my doctor know about the situation, and he really tried to help.

I don't like ACA - because Universal Health Care should have been implemented.

But, ACA works out for the majority. So, I have no problem with it.

I honestly use to have a problem with people making up random unfounded shit (i.e. the conservatard / anarchist shitstain 'agenda'), but they have fallen on their faces time and time again.

I love how all these braindead apologists crawl out of the woodwork like cockroaches to defend this sick Obamination of health care reform. The law didnt do a damn thing to stop the price of drugs like naloxone from rising 40 frickin fold. There is no way the cost to produce old drugs can possibly go up by such amounts. But the price does. That is bullcrap. That is out-frickin-rageous. But you goddam braindead fools will do nothing about it. You wont do anything about the fact that drugs often sell for half the price in other 1st world countries compared to here. And it is illegal to buy them over there and bring them here and resell them to arbitrage the price down to fair market value. Nobody does anything about it. People are so ill informed that they know nothing about the real root cause of high healthcare costs. Thus they do nothing. Simply outlandishly foolish. You dont know anything about the system that is robbing and raping you blind and bloody. But you know who won Dancing with the Stars, dont you?

I'm not sure if we should take health care advice from someone who appears to believe in the anti-fluoride nonsense.

I'm also not sure if we should take economics advice from someone who thought the government would be shutting down GDPNow because it said inconvenient things.

One reason price of old drugs goes up is due to minimum number of manufacturers.

Physicians these days push for newer drugs and hence the market share of old drugs is going down. I'm talking about real old drugs like chlorpromazine in this discussion.

Even though generic for a long period of time, the number of manufacturers has dwindled rapidly due to low profit margins.

At one point there were 4 or 5 generic manufacturers for this drug, now there are hardly 2 manufacturers. That eventually dictates cost too.

OP should seek insurance. I have advised a pt who was on the exact same medication, paying out of pocket get insurance through marketplace last year during open enrollment. He now pays substantially less (actually way less than what he was paying). Yes, there are deductibles to be met, but that's the way insurance companies operate.

We all know healthcare and pharmaceutical costs remained flat year to year before Obamacare came around.

Maybe Republicans should repeal and replace the prescription drug mess that they themselves created with Medicare part D before they vote another 50 times on Obamacare.

That'd require them to actually think...thinking is hard work for them, Ranting is much easier.

Sad thing is I think there is a possibility Obamacare may have had a hand in raising drug costs, even if indirectly. I could easily see pharmaceutical companies, being for profit businesses selling a product, having some round table meeting and being all like "Ok so now that it's law, why not just hawk the price up for all our life sustaining pills. Medicare can't negotiate or haggle, we'll make tons more profit and if anyone complains we'll just chalk it up to Obamacare made me do it."

It's kind of like a certain telecom moving out of the West claiming it's the result of the FCC's Net Neutrality ruling. When in fact, it had nothing to do with it. The nature of business is often deception and misdirection.

I think we should blame those who have attempted to address the issues and totally keep voting for those that not only haven't bothered to attempt to make things better but who are trying to make things worse.
