Biggest jaw drop and hair raiser in history for me was when the true nature and origin of the world of Xenogears hit me for the first time.

Still get chills just thinking about it. Made me feel so small and insignificant.

In 1987 I went to an Atari convention at the Infomart near downtown Dallas. This was the era of the Atari ST and Amigas, which were super amazing for the time.

Anyhow, the Amiga was better in many ways, but the ST had better audio for whatever reason, and had built-in MIDI ports. So it turned out that some brilliant folks had figured out how to use the MIDI ports as in/out surrogate network ports, a la token ring but more crude. And how did they use it? FOR A MULTIPLAYER FPS SHOOTER!! I played 'Midi Maze', essentially a super early Doom/BF/COD predecessor, with a bunch of other people in absolute astonishment. Jaw drop? Check. Of course it doesn't even compare to a cell phone game today, but that was nearly 30 years ago now, and good lord was it impressive at the time, the most impressive element being stalking and being stalked by other humans in a FPS world.

The game : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hSoy1S43dw

In Unreal when the lights go out one by one and a skaarj attacks you. Would love to have another single player unreal game.

The massiveness of Total Annihilation and the range on the big guns. Then came the galactic wars to make it even bigger. Why has no other RTS done something like the galactic wars?

All off HL and HL2. Please release HL3.

That was the most recent that made my jaw drop...

The earliest game was 13 years ago at the local arcade with my date - I thought we were playing an innocent 1 vs 1 competitive puzzle game... turned out it was porn when you solved the puzzle! D:

Honestly... Probably either Ocarina of Time, as soon as you start the game and leave your house, or Shadow of the Collosus, when you meet the first boss.

Not too many moments nowadays. Leaving the Vault in Fallout 3 was pretty awesome I will admit too and the first BF3 Damavand Peak jump almost nailed it for me too, but my bro spoiled it for me in advance and the effect wasn't the same.

thanks for spoiling it for everyone who hasnt played

It's been more than a year since the game is out. Spoilers need not apply.

Whiners who bitch about spoilers need to bury their head in the sand until they can no longer breathe --just in case someone around them might utter a spoiler about what country landed on the moon first or something.

I don't play a whole lot of games, so I'll go with a couple: After escaping the sewer in Oblivion when that game first came out and just taking in the view (also after climbing up into the mountains, looking out over the valley).

Another one: When I first started playing EVE Online back in '04. And subsequently, when they updated the various models a few years later.

EVE!! Good times.

I remember my jaw dropping when I realized that I couldn't dock in combat and two frigates were going to take out my Machariel after following me back to an NPC station and chewing up all my light drones. I had the 1200's installed so I couldn't hit the frigs.

However, right at the last moment, my crew showed up and popped both of them and saved my 2-billion Isk ship. :awe:

My first time playing WoW is mine. I was a very dedicated Warcraft player from Orcs/Humans to WC3, and the overall experience of playing a character in the Warcraft universe was very amazing for me.

Jaw drop moment? Well, I remember coming out of the warehouse like building in Crysis 2 at the begining of the game. The lighting and the helicopter that was overhead simply made my jaw drop.

I remember certain parts of Deadspace 2 made my jaw drop. Game looks beautiful to me at the time

Since people are posting jaw-dropping moments in general on came to me the other day.

Back in the early 2000's, maybe 2001 or 2002 I was dicking around at Best Buy when I came across a new laptop display they had set up. I have no idea what the featured laptop was, I only remember that it had a phenomenal screen and was completely jet black.

Anyway, they had it set up with one of the Star Wars games, and I think it was Outcast. I only remember being in an outdoor setting and shooting at Storm troopers that were a building a couple of floors above me. My jaw absolutely hit the floor. I was able to play with it a bit before my girlfriend at the time drug me away from it (iirc we were there to look at CDs).

The PC I was using was at the time was the first one I had ever owned: a windows 98 rig with a Voodoo 3 3000 that had given me some great years of gaming, and most of the laptops I had actually used were severely lacking in quality when it came to 3d gaming (if they could play 3d games at all).

It was just incredible to me - a laptop can play 3d games better than my desktop?!?!?!? NO fricking way.

I loved/hated this part. Really sold HJ as a hardcore villian, and having played Mordecai for like 200 hours in BL1 it was also really sad.

I had a similar experience on my uni campus when Alienware (a year or so before the Dell takeover) was part of a tech expo, they had laptops set up around the union. One I tried was playing FEAR. The graphic settings were over-ambitious (I'm okay with 30fps but it was slower than that) but the detail was amazing. I was sold on the budget performance gaming market and built my first computer by next year.

Seriously, but guys...spoiler tags. those are pretty solid moments in the game that are far better off for those who haven't played, especially like thus of us coming from BL1.

Anyway, I agree. That actually pissed me off to a surprising degree, and even moreso, later, in the "events"
after the B3NKR fight.
This game really went above and beyond BL1 when it comes to story and character development.

It's the fact that you have no idea how to use a spoiler. Here, you bitch about using spoilers, even though you used one. So either you should not have used the tags since you think there is no reason for them, or you did it intentionally this way to piss off people.

don't be so obtuse.

I played that first one on PS1...it was decent for 2 discs. Got to disc 3 and it turned out to be black screen of text for the next hour or so, silly little cliche'd sci fi schlock, so I took out that disc and tossed it.

My jaw dropping moment for that one was how that game went from decently compelling to a snooze fest with the simple switch of a disk.
