When was the last time a moment in a game made your jaw drop?

Probably the last jaw-dropping moment for me (besides Crysis's gorgeous jungles) was Rome Total War. Seeing those many guys running around in my first RTS game since Age of Empires 1 and Red Alert 2 was mind-blowing.

Since then, games have not been that awe-inspiring. Or maybe I just got older.

I've had many of those types of moments already in BF4. The visuals and sounds are just amazing. It feels like you're really in the fight.

Most definitely Skyrim. My jaw was on the floor due to the sheer immersive world... oh wow, I truly felt like I was in the middle of some Scottish woodlands in 12th century. It's not about the latest engine and graphics like Crysis 3. Skyrim, I was so god damn giddy.. so many beautiful scenery, picturesque towns, etc... jesus christ.

When the sun was set, I really felt like I was out camping in the middle of the night.

I miss it so much (but sick of the game), I watch HD gameplay clips on Youtube sometimes, just to take it all in again.

Absolutely agree. As well as your recommendations, a decent ENB creates contrast between light and dark, Vivid Landscapes adds parallax mapping for awesome 3D effect, and W.A.T.E.R. for what you see in the screenshot. Throw in about 80 other mods and Skyrim's a whole different game.

It's been a long time. The first time was the original tomb raider. That was pretty sweet. The last time might have been Vanilla wow. There just hasn't been much new. Farcry came out before then. Max Payne.

Might have to check out skyrim though.

My jaw dropped, or actually, I jumped out my chair when playing Batman Arkham City. When the great white shark jumped out of the water to attack me while I exploring the asylum.

And I had a "wow" moment when I got 10 kills (in a 15v15 battle), in World of Warplanes

My jaw dropped when I learned that the latest version of The Witcher 2 does in fact not support Anisotropic Filtering !!?!??

Kidding aside, The Witcher 2 is an awesome game. I only started to play it last week. It looks pretty good. Too bad there are no ways to enhance the image-quality even further. No real texture packs, no SGSSAA anti-aliasing, etc. I kept wondering why the texture of stuff further away was so blurry. It turns out the last patch broke AF. Can't even force it in the driver. Unbelievable ....

It took on a life of it's own, which is fine by me.

Jaw-dropping moments are obviously something gamers like to talk about.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - single player campaign was pretty jaw-dropping for me.

WoW Beta/Vanilla Wow - first MMO ever and was amazed at the warcraft world brought to life. Was floored by all the lore/character/scenery that were in the RTS games and now 3D/virtual world.

Yeah, I have admit I was pretty overwhelmed by WoW the first time I played it way back when, even while being irritated by the simplification of things since gen 1 - Asheron's Call (to be fair- AC 2 annoyed me a bit as well).

But it was really immersive and well-done, so I got over it fairly quickly. I loved exploring all of the areas for the first time and doing quests with people I was meeting on a daily basis. I'll never forget my first trip through the instance in Westfall, when I finally made it to the end. I was a relative noob and tagged along a more experienced group, and I couldn't believe how deep the rabbit hole went.

And it ran and looked great on a AMD 200Xpress.

One of the times would be after installing all user created graphical updates for Grand Prix Legends around 2003. The cars looked photo realistic.
More recently, Skyrim. Many times, while wondering in the wilderness.

Oh my, yes Deadmines! I too went through that instance during WoW Beta. During Beta, I was just doing quests on my own until I ran into that instance. Had no idea what the swirling graphic was or what an instance was, but I ended up joining a group for it. Holy crap! When I got to the goblin shredder, I was like HOOOOOLY SHIEET! I've seen/used goblin shredders in WC3 and I just couldn't believe I was seeing one in virtual life. And then of course when you get to the inner cavern with the ship and just how huge the place looked, it was nuts.

Oh another one I thought of. Waverunner 64. The water effects were unbelievable at the time. Jaw definitely dropped on that one.
