When was the last time you played a board game?

For me about 4 years ago and the game was Monopoly. As usual I won. The trick is to not be fussy about properties and buy everything you land on. I bet you knew that.

But do people still play board games anymore? Seems like technology really put a hindrance on the board game market.

Depends on what you mean.

D&D very recently. Tried to get some college kids into it. They did not like. Couldnt figure out where the grinding for color flashes were found.

Descent, last year with college kids. They kinda liked it. Not really.

An actual board game: I cant even remember. Many years now. Probably chutes and ladders at my cousins house. They were 9 and 7, so its been like 10 years at least. Maybe more.

Played one this summer actually during a family vacation. I don't remember what it was called. Was kinda like charades, but not quite.

On new years we often play Monopoly or Rat Race. Rat Race is an interesting game, don't think you can even buy it anymore. Been 2 years in a row that I work Christmas/New Years so have not played in a while.

Board games are actually still pretty big in the singles & married couples market, for people who still hang out IRL. We don't play them too much at home by ourselves because my family is too competitive & we typically end up hating each other and/or someone flips the Monopoly board before the end of the game, hahaha. We mostly stick with Mario Kart for when things get intense

I play board games all the time. It's a great way to socialize. D & D, Settlers, Agricola, Risk, Vikings, Power Grid... The entire point of board games is to involve a group of people. Single player board games are not what the genre is for.

A month or two ago. People who say they don't like board games because Monopoly or Life are boring have not played modern board games. I had not played a modern board game until I played Settlers of Catan. After that I became very enthusiastic about new age board games and started playing other as well. Saying you don't play board games because you think Monopoly is dumb is like saying you don't use smartphones because you used a friend's a Blackberry Storm and a Microsoft Kin One, once, and had a bad experience.

You can play a lot of board games on your smartphone versus AI - Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan, Kingdom Builder, etc.

We play Descent 2nd Edition almost every night. It's not quite what I hoped, but my son likes it, and we get to spend time together as a family instead of staring at our phones/computers. (well I take that back...we use the app as the overlord, so we still end up staring at a tablet anyway).

At the holidays.

Just got Dominion which is just cards, but was really fun.

Zombicide was a fun co-op, but may be more contentious than a competitive game.

Puerto Rico is also a good building/trade game.

Smallworld is a fun territory and combat game. Kids like playing that too.

Settlers it's a classic, altho I haven't played it in a while. Got me into modern board games way back when.

The last time I played a board game was probably in high school, 2002 - My history teacher was kinda mailing it in because he was half way into another profession at that point (wound up being his final year teaching) so we played a lot of his Axis & Allies board in class. It was honestly a ton of fun but I haven't revisited it since because it requires so many people.
