*knocks on wood* i have never been stung, and i am kind of afraid that i am allergic because of other reactions with bug stings and bites.

I get stung just to see them die. Does that make me serial killer?

The first time I was stung was when I was in about 3rd grade. I was at a parade, and went to take a drink of pop, and a wasp was sitting on there and stung me on the lip...the bad thing was class picture day was the next day...my lip was swollen up to about 3x normal size on one side.

Then when I was in about 8th Grade, I was walking in the woods and walked through a bush that had a bunch of bees in it. I got stung multiple times in my leg. It didn't really hurt bad but the next week or so my leg itched like none other.

7 years ago. My junior year in high school, I was getting on the bus to goto my soccer game. As I raised my leg to step on the bus's first step, I felt some land right on the back of my knee in mid-motion. The bending of that knee as I raised it caused the bee/wasp/hornet to be crushed behind my knee and in it's dying throes, it stung me in reflex. Sonuva bitch!

It really didn't hurt too much after 10-15 minutes.

Did your mom feel really bad for dragging you outside? After the 2nd sting, were you still scared to go outside?

Back in the town I grew up in there were tons of ground bee hives. My friend an I were walking in the woods behind my house when I stepped next to a dead tree and my foot went into the ground. I had crushed an entire nest. Holy fvck were they pissed! I just screamed "Bees! RUN!" and we booked it out of there. Not one sting! Although the little bastards would get me sometimes when I mowed the lawn.

wasps are attracted to lactic acid, they can smell it. So those of us that produce more of it, actually ATTRACT wasps and hornets....*shudder*

I think there are multiple factors involved with how much it hurts. I get stung by yellow jackets probably 1-2 times per year (we have several fruit trees and they like to gather on the fallen fruit) - I even made a thread about the little bastages last summer. Most of the time it's a short-lived feeling, except for the itching. I have been stung around joints, however, usually the ankle, where it's swollen up and hurt for days.

Hornets have the most painful sting in my experience. I got dinged twice about 10 years ago trying to get a hornet's nest out of my dog house.

The part that gets me is the unpredictability of the sting, and not knowing if it's going to be in a lesser painful spot like the calf and forearm, or in the freakin' eyelid or lip. Not to mention the allergic reaction many people have to the toxins that are injected from the stinger, and that pheromones released from a sting also alert other nearby bees that an intruder has been spiked. So it can get a lot worse than a hard pinch depending on the situation.

I guess it depends on the size of the thing, and on your own reaction to the bee venom.
I've been stung by wasps, yellow jackets, and a few kinds of hornets. Some small things underground stung me once on the leg after I mowed over the small nest, and it hurt fairly bad, but I was still able to go back to mowing. Another time, I was stung by a bald faced hornet when I unwittingly walked under a huge nest suspended from the roof at my grandmother's house. Those hornets are BIG. That hurt to the point that I couldn't walk on the leg for about an hour afterwards.

Fast forward to a few years after that bald faced hornet encounter - at home, there was a big nest in a bush, about the size of one and a half basketballs, and I walked right by it. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something large behind the branch my head was near, and I had a really bad feeling, so I just started running. Nothing ever came at me, amazingly. I was less than 2 ft from the thing! If I'd just brushed the branch it was on, ooh man that would have been bad. Over the next few days, I took to throwing large rocks, and shooting BB's at the nest. Lotta pissed off hornets came out each time. Eventually the nest sustained enough damage that it became uninhabitable

On that same site. :Q:shocked::Q
The Asian Giant Hornet - almost 1.75" long. Forget a flyswatter if one of them's in the house. Get a baseball bat.

Right around a year ago. I was driving home from work avoiding the highway as the weather was really nice. I wanted to enjoy the drive with the windows down. Well I'm about a mile from home and I hear something bounce off of the back window of my truck and I feel something on my neck. The next thing I know I feel a sting on my back just below my shoulder, then shortly after another right above my pectoral muscle, and finally a third just above my waist. As soon as I pull in the driveway I start stripping down. The bee must have been stunned by all of the commotion as he just layed there on the ground twitching. Multiple stomps of my shoe later he was pronounced dead at the scene. Needless to say the jury found the defendant GUILTY.

I was stung last year, while disturbing some farm equipment that hadn't been bothered for a while. No big deal.

The interesting thing is, when I was little, I would sometimes have a reaction to a sting, and sometimes wouldn't.

One memorable time: I was standing beside one of the tractors, and my dad threw the ignition switch... not even a second later, there were bees flying all over the place. I starting running as fast as I could, to get away from them... fortunately, they didn't follow me. I was stung 5 or 6 times in my left arm, and once on my right hand. My left arm was just a little sore from the sting; my right hand, however, was swollen for over a week (the doctor advised I soak it in water, to help the swelling... that was nice of him). <shrug>

I was stung about 5 years ago, dropping off some UPS envelopes for work. Apparently a colony of bees decided the UPS drop-off box door would make an excellent place for a nest. I remember letting the door slam shut, then a sh!tload of them came flying out. I ran like hell, but a couple still got me - one in the arm, the other in the shoulder. I had a couple raised spots (kinda like big mosquito bites) and felt a little disoriented for about 5 minutes or so, but other than that I was OK.

Living in the country I've been stung/bitten by bees and wasps too many times to count...one of the worst ones was when I was clearing some brush from behind the horses shed and disturbed a BIG colony of yellowjackets. Got stung about 30 times all over but one managed to get INSIDE MY MOUTH and stung my tongue a couple of times. Normally being stung doesn't affect me at all, but my tongue swelled up to about 4 times its' size for about an hour....went back later with a quart of kerosene and that was the last of those fvckers. I have a pic somewhere and I'll post it if I can find it....

The last time I remember getting stung it was by a bald face hornet.

HURT LIKE HELL!

I was mountain biking and it damn near made me crash.

Further up the trail I ran into another group of people who also got stung and they DID crash.

One guy tore up his knee and there was a girl crying...

During the end of summer, they (and many other nasty types) eat fruit that has fallen and started to ferment, they get DRUNK. They are the epitome of a NASTY DRUNK!

Age: either 3 or 4 years old.

How it occured: I wanted to have my mom carry me home from the swimming pool (one block, half through a grassy field and half sidewalk). She refused. I wasn't wearing shoes since I was swimming. I accidently stepped on a bee in the field. The stinger loged into the bottom of my foot near the arch. She carried me home.

Conclusion: I should always get my way, since I'm getting it anyways, you might as well do it immediately before unpleasant things happen.
