I originally put 4GB in my desktop, but a few months after that I upgraded to 8GB. Being able to leave a game running minimized for days on end while still able to do development work is great
My work and home notebooks both have 4 gigs of ram. I have only noticed a difference in my virtual machines. My OSX and linux notebooks run the same as ever.

That's exactly why I bumped my system up to 8GB a few weeks ago. 4GB has been fantastic - can minimize games no problem, etc. - but for $25, why not go to 8GB?
