When will 4TB RED drives become available?

If you're going to RAID, you want NAS drives. In this case WD Red. Those drives support TLER. Plus they're meant got all day operation, low heat, and low power.

I know this has been beat to death but, if you are using software RAID, I'm not so sure TLER is a big deal. Hardware RAID is a different story.

But the Reds do carry a longer warranty which makes them attractive if you can find them for close to the same price as other drives.

I'll tell you what really interests me: 2.5" form factors. This works really well for HDDs because it reduces noise levels and can also increase performance because of higher areal density.

My 10K RPM Raptor subjectively has a lot less idle noise than most 7K RPM drives I’ve used, and I believe its 2.5” form factor is the reason why.

While researching drives for my new Synology NAS, I too ran across bad karma in regards to WD Reds. I ended up getting 4 WD4000F9YZ R instead. Even then, 1 was destroyed by Amazon's infamous piss poor packing (It was loose in a box with only it's anti static bag to protect it. I sent it back without even opening it). and one I received from Newegg was DOA.

When did they change the Raptors to 2.5"? Still have a couple of the old 3.5" 150GB ones lying around somewhere.

This thing loves Seagate (3TBx12) 4TB (x2) drives, but both 4TB Reds I've given it have given the same strange log entry every day. Makes me fear for integrity. Seagate RMA process is a nightmare, but WD has more errors on 4tb for me atm. Unknown if it's a controller compatibility issue or two drives with same non-breaking functional issues the raid card just picks up on for some reason??? 4tb reds purchased months apart both from amazon received in adequate packaging.
