Ok lets go "punch for punch" I'll go first with my peasly .223 rifle and then afterwards you can shoot at me with any caliber you want.

nah... You both can compare how heavy your ammo weighs versus how many rounds that equates to...

You can then both load up your weapons and do timed live fire and see who has swap magazines first.

Nothing against say 7.62, but for the swiss army knife of rifles, I'm sticking with my AR in .223.

When I shoot I want to be able to feel it (and show the bruise afterwards)

I'm honestly not looking for "OMG PEEPEE MOA" when I go shooting. I like the history of the rifles, the "mmmphhh" factor, and actually feeling like I can do some damage with it. As long as it shoots to point of aim reasonably (around bullseye at 50yd) I'm happy.

That's why I don't shoot my pistols often either. I have shot a .50AE DE though, that's just too damn expensive to shoot though.

The 600mil is the training and recertification.
He was talking about the 150mil rounds fired in live active duty, which is not training and recertification.

Yeah, I just find it amusing that he is trying to insult my intelligence when he can't read a simple post on a message board.... moran

I'll stick with the $5.27/box TulAmmo at wally world. Don't need brass to shoot paper/pumpkins. Works fine for killing zombies too I'm sure.

Right now people are still willing to pay for what the sellers are charging, no reason to lower the price.

The rate at which people are stockpiling ammo I would say when people go broke stockpiling ammo and resell it.

Walmart is your market indicator?

Wal-Mart caused the ammo shortage. They are now reaping the rewards.

$18 per 50 rounds (brass and not steel) or $0.36 per round from PSA = http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/geco-target-223-remington-55gr-50rds-356141000.html

If you buy over $50, no shipping charge. Note: I can't confirm the quality of this brand.

Free shipping is over, but it quotes $11 for 500 rounds shipped for me - YMMV but should work out to roughly $190/500 = 38cpr.

GECO is excellent boxer-primed, brass cased, 223 ammo. If you need some hard to beat at the current market prices.

I haven't been hitting the range much lately, so I passed. More for everyone else until it goes OOS

wow 750 million rounds of ammo for DHS ... 80% for training!

it wasn't an all at a time deal though, right?

I thought it was spread out over years. The gist of it was to get the best deal and ensure the quantity they need.

care to explain?

I don't follow.

Related: I swung by a Walmart on the other side of the state. My local Walmart has always had plenty of ammo on hand. Apparently at the more rural stores, the same isn't true;

where do you guys get ammo for 38, 357, 40's ? How about reloads?

Carry or range ammo?

Carry ammo I just pick up when I need it. The difference between a good deal and regular price is usually less than $5/box. Not enough for me to worry about.

Range ammo I keep my eye out for deals and stock up when I find one. Buying online is good if you want big quantities, like over 500 rounds. But even then you aren't going to save that much over what you would if you stocked up on a blowout.

I don't do reloads. I am sure they are fine but I am not trusting enough to trust some guy in a Russian basement to load my ammo.

My Walmart has looked like that most of this year, though nowadays shotgun ammunition is once again prevalent and not just bird shot.

Supply/demand says no and obama limiting the amount allowed to be made keeps it high. Once this gets withdrawn you'll have your normal prices back
