Will the granite bay dual channel is going to be 200mhz or 266 mhz?
Is it going to be using only P4 3.06 Ghz? or at P4 2.53 Ghz and above?

It will most likely be released in conjunction with the P4 3.06GHz HT-enabled CPU. It should be able to run at both DDR200 as well as DDR266 and it should be able to take any S478 P4 CPU.

Man I hope its soon, im waiting to build a new P4 system and I'm scared ill go out and buy a different board on impulse if it isn't released soon.

BTW does anyone know if November 14th is THE day you can get the 3.06ghz? Or is it a small paper launch and we wont see the CPU for a few weeks after that? Also will its release drop the prices of other P4 chips any?

SiS's and VIA's dual channel DDR solutions are looking better on paper than granite bay at this time. But granite bay will arrive first.

Please elaborate how a sis or via chipset could be 'better' than and Intel chipset?

More/better features?
Cheaper?

Not that I know, but somehow it seems like you think a chipset by VIA/SiS/nVidia simply can't be better than an Intel chipset.

Sunner, I only reflect on chipsets made for Intel chips by Via and Sis...when Intel chipsets for Intel parts have most always pleased and seem for the most part, trouble free. Via and Sis chipsets for Intel parts are just not up to snuff imho. Not near as stable or level of quality. That is all... i.e. We all know who makes the best chipsets for AMD cpu's.... AMD does. No one makes a better chipset for Intel cpus than Intel. Please correct me if I'm missing something...

I think that may have been true a few years ago, but IMHO VIA makes some damn good chipsets. They may not be the fastest, but they are certainly trouble free and stable. Personally, I think a lot of people bitched about VIA back in the day when the 4in1 drivers needed to be installed after the OS installtion, but with WINxp that support is now included in the OS...

How many VIA chipsets have you owned? or are you basing your conclusions on posts you have seen here?

fklosters grades for chipsets for Intel cpus...... 1 being lowest 10 being the best:

1) Intel: Price: 4 Stability: 10 Features : 7
2) Sis: Price: 9 Stabiltiy: 7 Features: 9
2) Via: Price: 9 Stability: 6 Features: 8

Via and Sis win total score every time...but I would by the Intel beyond a shadow of a doubt for the stabiltiy

DDR333 support isn't important unless you're overclocking. Dual channel DDR266 perfectly matches the bandwidth capabilities of the processor. Using DDR333 in the system would only show the negligible performance gains that you see in an Athlon system with DDR400 vs. DDR333.

I am curious as to whether Ganite Bay will include native support for SATA and firewire. Actually, SATA's the only really important thing to me. I'm hoping Shuttle will release a Granite Bay-based SFF. They added a VIA firewire chip to the integrated 845GE motherboard, so I'm sure they'd so something similar with GB if it doesn't have it already. But I'm really looking forward to the move to SATA (tiny, non-airflow-blocking cables being a big win for SFF), but I don't think Shuttle would include a third party SATA solution.

I'm still waiting for your basis on why VIA is not stable...you have roughly 12 hrs to think about it, before I fly out there and squeeze it out of you

Better on paper. Sis and Via dual DDR P4 chipsets will officially support up to DDR333 while GB up to DDR266

Just like DDR400 support huh? Looked good on paper, unfortunately they can't execute.

Feature wise I couldn't give a crap. I'll take the stability of an Intel chip and add a features if I really need it. I didn't see much that the GB Asus board was lacking though.

Will the Granite Bay be ONLY with 3.06Gig or will it be available with 2.53Gig?\
I am interested in Granite Bay DDR 266 with 2.53Gig.

you guys are 100% certain that GB will not support DDR333/pc2700?

Does it really matter if it supports DDR-333? I mean, if you're overclocking the FSB then the memory stays in sync with the P4's avalable bandwidth... I mean, the P4 allows works at 133*4, if you give it 266*2 it shouldn't be a problem... if you overclock it to 166 MHz, and give it 2*333MHz by overclocking everything synchronously, then you still don't have a problem... Why do people keep clamoring for a memory multiplier when it isn't needed?

people still going on about Intel with Intel being the most stable?? thats really quite disappointing, :disgust: , people see the title of a couple of threads when a new Via/Sis chipset/mobo comes out and starts saying they crappy, thought people were past that stage - i have owned both Intel with Intel and also just now AMD with VIA and IMHO there is no BIG, in fact i cant tell any stability -balderdash thats what it is!

Bah to all of you. SiS P4 is good. Personally for myself (enthusiast) I would buy intel at this time, but the Asus P4S533 is gold to me... I put that board in all the Joe Schmoe P4 computers I build and it is stable as a rock.
