Yep that's what it was. How do you plan on getting in on it now?

I was going to try the online chat but that doesn't seem to be working for me. not really in the mood to call them up so I might forget it.

heres one of the cases

The drive is back in stock... no telling how long it'll last or, assuming it sells out instantly... if any more will become available...

Was there a combo I missed to get the Antec 200? I would have sprung for that case.

ya I missed it too, didn't see it till it was too late.

add the antec or some other case I posted above for only $10, and you get free 3 day UPS shipping with it. was a a great combo

I saw the NZXT case and it looked pretty rough - did not see the Antec. Are we speculating here or was that an actual $10 option?

no speculation, they were $10. I think the savings were 60 and 40 dollars respectively? whatever made them $10 a piece

Woah - missed out on this completely. I think this drive will finally get me on the SSD track. I was going to wait until I could get afford a larger drive, but I don't think that will happen soon. So a SSD "boot" + separate storage drive is the way I'll go (and judging by how fast things are selling, the way a lot of other people are going as well).

Do they have TRIM for this drive - seems like you would really need it for a drive this small.

No TRIM on this drive. Kingston claims it might be implemented at a later date.

This drive looks like it might make a fairly decent laptop drive, but there are so many better options for the desktop. For instance, the OCZ Agility 60GB being sold @ ZZF looks like a much better deal overall for $159 after rebate, or .50 more a GB vs. the Kingston SSDNow 40GB.

TRIM should be possible. For the price there isn't anything better. I don't see why you think that ocz is a better deal considering you can get 2 of the kingston drives for about the same price after rebate and you get more space. oh, and the kingston uses a X25-M G2

Two of those badboys in Raid 0 would be interesting.

I can't believe I missed the Antec 200 case. I bought the X25-M G2 when it was on special and I missed the nearly free Element case that time too. I ended up selling the X-25 for what I paid for it.

OCZ at that price is very nice. Much faster sequential reads and writes and currently supports trim. 40 is too small for a laptop but 60 is manageable.

By the way you cant buy 2 of these for 85 and it looks like its going to be hard to even get one.

It was a joke. For most of us it was never actually available, just listed at $104 and free shipping plus a mail-in rebate that brought it down to $85. But it was OOS and you weren't allowed to buy it.
It's $130 now (and still OOS), so forget it. Totally not worth it anymore. Better pricing at Amazon. ScrewEgg, as usual.

Plus you get to know when Amazon ships your order exactly before ordering it with prime or if you get at least 2 day shipping! Most internet companies don't do that yet.

To play Devil's Advocate, we don't actually know how many Newegg had for sale at that price. They could have had only 10 (as a previous post postulated) or they could have had 100, or 1000. We had advanced knowledge of it not only on Anandtech, but also a bunch of other sites. I'm sure many, many people were on the lookout for this deal.

I do know one thing. The 30/32GB Indilinx drives no longer have a reason to exist. :awe:

ZZF was probably expecting lots of people who couldn't get the Kingston 40gb drive to look around for other deals. Now the initial rush is done, they jacked it back up what it was couple of days ago.

If I was ZZF, I would have done the same.

yeah...on one side, the press release made it sound like $85 after rebate would be the normal price. that wasn't true, and the price is higher even before rebate which is unfortunate. on the other side, if you were on newegg during the shell shocker you would have got your drive. the limit of one per person made em last a while, at least for an hour after I ordered that I kept paying attention.

I was thinking of getting this smaller 40 GB SSD for just my OS drive but decided it was way to small. Plus sense I found a great deal with a second Intel SSD G2 drive for $234.99 I bought it instead. Only the 80 GB version but that is more than enough space for my main drive! That way I can use my current Intel SSD G2 160 GB for my game drive. Maybe a little data too, that needs to be accessible very quickly, if I don't fill it up with game installations first to much. Just couldn't pass up this deal. I was thinking to myself when will I ever see this drive this cheap again ? Looks like I was right.

Some are reporting that the Kingston 40GB SSD is shipping with the 2CV102HA firmware, which is the same firmware that adds support for TRIM on Intel's G2 SSD drives.

Can anyone confirm whether their Kingston 40GB SSD has the 2CV102HA firmware with TRIM?

I'm probably the last person that should chime in on this because I know very little, but crystal disk info is telling me I have the 2CV102HA firmware and that trim is not supported on the drive. It woulda been cool if it did right out the box!
