When would you step in to a neighbor's situation?

We have a neighbor who pretty much argues and screams at his gf nearly every night (they don't live with each other as far as I know), sometimes into 3-4 a.m.

Luckily I live on the other side of the wall from my roommate and other neighbor who can hear them so it doesn't bother me personally that much.

However as I was walking back tonight I heard a broken bottle, as if it were thrown against a wall, followed by a scream, followed by some more back and forth screaming, stuff like him going "you're an insubordinate tw*t, followed by her going "at least I don't scream out other peoples names during sex".

And right as I'm typing this I hear a door slam followed quickly by a car starting and revving off.

When would you feel it's time to step in and do something, if ever?

It would depend on what the yelling was about. If the woman screams, "Ahh, a spider, someone kill it," for instance...

call in a domestic disturbance. that sounds pretty ridiculous

apparently nobody got hurt. domestic disturbance call would probably only exacerbate the situation.

i guess i meant a noise complaint if these idiots are screaming at 3 and 4am its a valid complaint.

Call it in as a noise complaint (DOC - Noise). It would then be up to the officer if it was a domestic disturbance.

If I'm hearing it at 3-4 a.m. then I'd call in a noise complaint and let a LEO take it from there.

Hah. Do like my father did. Whenever the neighbors used to fight like that, he'd bang on their door and tell them to both stfu or he is gonna beat the shit out of the both of them and have them arrested afterwards.

lol, they would apologize and stay shut after that each time. I think they were more embarrassed than scared though...lol

A few months ago, I heard my neighbors yelling and I felt the whole wall shake as if someone was being thrown into it repeatedly. I'm a huge pussy, but I went next door and knocked anyway. Dude came to the door and I asked if everything was ok because I thought I heard a scream, didn't ask for details. He said, "Yeah, everything's cool. I was just arguing with my wife... girlfriend." I moved out of that apartment a week later.

Anyway, maybe it's stupid to personally interfere instead of calling the cops, but it seems irresponsible to wait for them to show up if someone's actually in immediate danger. Just me.

The only way that would work is if the person is a big, scary mofo.
