oh, and in regards to what the OP actually asked, i work in a call centre doing advertising and speak to an extremely broad range of people every day, after being here for a number of years i've worked out fairly well what level of intelligence people are likely to have within a few words so speak accordingly to them.....although on occasion i get it wrong and have offended an intelligent person by treating them like a baby...lmao

I talk how I talk. I sometimes use words that may be considered long or complicated, but I only use them when they fit the situation, and not in some lame way of showing off.

I try to keep it pretty simple for everyone. On occasion I will unintentionally use a "big" word, and most of the time catch myself after the fact when I see the blank stares.

I have a habit of speaking more eloquently than is absolutely required for the situation. It's good for the kids, though, as it exposes them to a lot of words the hicks down here aren't as likely to use.

I've been made fun of for using "big words."
I don't do it to sound smart, it's just that sometimes "big words" better describe a subject/situation. Not my fault my friends didn't go to/dropped out of college.

It depends on who I am talking to.
If I'm talking to someone who is "non computer literate" I dumb things down for them.
If I'm talking to someone who knows computers ... I'll use proper termanology & acronyms.
I prefer to talk like a nerd I guess, since that's how I prefer to be talked to.
