I never consumed alcohol. I don't plan on it in the future either.

Most of my peers are 21+ anyway... So, they didn't need to hide it.

In high school, I drank a few times in Bars at metal shows ... was lucky not to get carded ever.

In college, I drank in parties, in my dorm room freshman year, in my apartment sophmore year, pretty much wherever....

Never really had to hide it.

I started drinking around age 17 so I didn't have to hide it. What was more important to live at home was having a job.

I lived in PA near the Jersey border. Their drinking age was 18, so we used to drive over for beer, or hit the bars. I lost interest after a couple years.

I didn't drink too regularly until I was about 20 and in college, so it didn't really matter then. I didn't drink in high school either, but there was a year between high school and college where I'd drink semi regularly with friends. A couple people in my group of friends had huge houses, so we virtually had entire apartments to ourselves to do whatever. The houses were so big that his parents couldn't ever hear us being loud, and we didn't drink too often, so they never suspected we were drinking.

2 of my best friends are brothers, and their parents always let us drink at their house. They're such nice parents, and always looked forward to seeing everybody in our group of friends. And when the parents would be gone on vacation, they didn't mind in the least about us partying there. They knew we were responsible enough to handle it, despite still being 19 or 20.

I never really had to hide it. Before I was of age, I told my parents in passing that I casually drink once in a while, and it wasn't an issue.

I had my first beer in Munich. When I got back to the states, we used to drink in my friend's shed behind his house and in our cars before football games. MD 20/20 and Budweiser were the choices usually, or occasionally Steel Reserve.

Steel Reserve has been my drink of choice for years now. I've drank so much of it that I actually enjoy the flavor. Plus, the price to buzz ratio is excellent.

Didn't drink until College. I didn't hide it either since they expected it. When I drank at home on New Years or during the Summer, my parents made sure they had the keys to my car.

13 or so. We were having dinner and asked my dad if I can try his beer. He poured me some. I took a sip. That was the end of my drinking day. Good time. Good time.

Buddies and I would all have LAN parties at one of our houses, of course because of the amount of stuff we had to bring, it was extremely easy to carry cases of beer, or bottles into the house and then we would set up, get the games set up and start drinking... Because we were just playing computer games, our parents never really checked on us or worried... but BOY were we drinking...

didnt have to hide it.. once I got my Active Duty Military ID at 17 I was handed pretty much every kind of booze you can imagine. never had to buy crap back then.. people bought us drinks everywhere we went.. and most bartenders and bouncers and shop keepers attitude was.. old enough to die for the country.. old enough to buy from me..

was awesome.. and then of course we traveled to Europe.. where there was no age anyway..

Performing. I was a child performer when I was little and then I had a band in my teen years. Tons of alcohol in that world. Dad (musician) was an alkie himself and mom didn't see me sober often enough to know the difference.

I grew up in a somewhat more egalitarian time and place before a lot of the material affluence that many of you now take for granted.

Times were quite different. For instance, there wasn't a single one of us (male) who didn't go get their driver's license the minute they turned 16, unlike what I hear happens today.

Parent's didn't go out as much, nor were the homes as vast. Most didn't have a separate "entertainment" room. So the only place we had to drink, really, was out in the woods or driving around in cars.

Because of this, I learned to drive while "under the influence" very, very well. As soon as whoever was driving started to swerve, I would demand to drive, and from that point on, I would put my entire attention into driving safely and well.

I enjoyed driving safely, defensively (before the term was ever even coined) and well, and I always brought the boys home safely!

This. EXACTLY!

Almost all our partying was done outside. We had these spots we would drive to, go out this lonely road, pull off onto some dirt tracks marked no trespassing, drive back into the woods a couple miles, park, and proceed to get fucked up.

Partying in the woods was great until the winter time (upstate NY). The cold didn't stop us from doing it though.

I wasn't even 16 yet when I got my permit and took driver's ed that summer.

Vodka suppositories...it works if you can be a man and deal with the stinging sensation

Actually, my family had a bar in our house, so I would fill up a soda bottle with the liquor on the way out. I would never empty the liquor bottle all of the way and just replace it with water. My mom eventually caught on when she was mixing drinks and no one was really getting drunk anymore. They locked up their booze after that.

Didn't drink till I was 21. Ok, that's not entirely true. I had wine with permission at family functions occasionally, tried a beer once with some acquaintances (but could only stand a couple swallows since it was a mainstream), and drank for real once after breakup with gf who had a miscarriage. That was it till I was 21. In fact, only 1 or 2 of the people I knew in school drank before 21.

Even in the states you can drink anywhere it's legal for a 21yo to drink at any age, you just can't buy/sell unless over 21. The only issue is that the supplying party who is of-age and purchased it cannot be compensated and still risks vague charges like "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" or "child endangerment."

Couple of questions.

1) "Even in the states you can drink anywhere it's legal for a 21yo to drink at any age" What the fuck does that mean
2) "cannot be compensated" Why is anyone ever compensated for drinking?
3) No charges for drinking in your own home in the UK (as long as your over 2) You can buy alcohol with a meal from 14 and in a pub / bar at 18.

Just didn't drink when my parents were present. School camping trips were ideal. Back in the good old days when the drinking age was 18 I could buy booze at 16 with suitable ID.

BTW, drinking is bad, you shouldn't dsrink.

When I was a teenager DC was 18 for beer, Virginia and Maryland 21 for everything. We never had any problem getting beer, there was a liquor store in SE on MLK Ave called Meades Liquor we used to make a run to every Wednesday for a case of beer when I was in 10th grade. I don't remember it being a big deal, if the cops caught us with beer it was generally "pop and pour" and once it was all poured out go home and stay out of trouble.
