My dad came from a long line of devout teetotalers, and when he got into high school he rebelled significantly. He didn't want that from me, so I was getting appreciable amounts of alcohol (a couple beers or a couple shots of liquor) in my early teens and more or less had full reign by the time I was 15. I don't drink much now, and I'm still not of legal age.

I never drank at home. My friends and I always set up some sort of "event" like a camping trip, house party when someone's parents were away, or a get-together at someone's house whose parents were cool with us drinking. Trying to sneak a few beers while dodging uncool parents who would likely be able to tell we were buzzed just never seemed worth it.

One of my friends had a parent who was not blind to underage drinking, or the dangers of it. So, we could drink at their home once in awhile, BUT we had to hand over the keys until the next day, no exceptions. We never got into trouble, and learned about alcohol tolerance and where to draw the line. I am sure this will come off as condoning underage drinking, but looking back I don't think it was given the alternative that was bound to happen.

Other method was camping/hanging out in the woods/party's at someones place whose parents were gone for the weekend.

Buddies and I would all have LAN parties at one of our houses, of course because of the amount of stuff we had to bring, it was extremely easy to carry cases of beer, or bottles into the house and then we would set up, get the games set up and start drinking... Because we were just playing computer games, our parents never really checked on us or worried... but BOY were we drinking...

This means there's a chance I might know you. But there were lots of drinking and lanning at that age in Toledo I guess, as I knew a few different people who admitted to such. And hell we still do it from time to time but schedules rarely sync up for that, at least, not on my end - I've missed multiple. lol

I just drink when I'm with friends on the weekends. It's not hard to hide.

Used to go camping and drink, or drink with my friends while playing D&D in our friends basement. Parents never wanted to come down there, and assumed rowdiness was from the game. Also would host parties at my house when parents were out of town

Couple of questions.

1) "Even in the states you can drink anywhere it's legal for a 21yo to drink at any age" What the fuck does that mean
2) "cannot be compensated" Why is anyone ever compensated for drinking?
3) No charges for drinking in your own home in the UK (as long as your over 2) You can buy alcohol with a meal from 14 and in a pub / bar at 18.

1) It means that there are some places that even a 21yo can't drink. Open container in a car, parking lot or sidewalk near the point of sale (package/liquor or convenience store), public drinking (some places), etc.
2) You paying someone "of age" to buy it for you is compensating them for buying it. In that case, the person buying it would be breaking the law. Giving them something else or trading is also "compensation." They have to buy it for the younger person without expecting pay or compensation like you would buy a date a meal or your children, well, everything.
3) There is no law against anyone of any age drinking in their own home in the USA either. It doesn't have to be their own home either but, like I said, it has to be some place where drinking is allowed for 21yo people as well. The only consistent laws regarding the legal drinking age in the USA are actually the legal purchasing and sales age. There may be some Hicksville law that goes too far but it would be over-reaching and easily defeated should it ever be challenged by a higher court. A parent can give wine to their child. A religions can share a wine-drinking ritual with a child. A random adult giving some other child alcohol without that child's parents consenting risks application of a vague law like "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" and not much else. The major concern is being a conduit for illegal underage sales.

I'm having a little trouble understanding you too: As long as my over 2 what?

I grew up and still live on the beach, so that was the easiest place to drink. Go drink on the beach all day then if your parents had questions, you were "drained from being in the sun all day"

By the time I was 17, I was allowed to do just about anything I wanted. I think it worked for the better, I never rebelled or went overboard. And I always stayed out of trouble.

I didn't drink, but some of my friends parents were fine with my friends drinking at their parties so I could have drank there easily. They figured it was better if done supervised.

You said it's legal for a 21 year old to drink at any age. 21 year olds can't be any age, they are 21.

He meant you can drink at any age, as long as it is legal for someone of age (21) to drink there.

So anyone can drink anywhere except in places people can't drink...

With stipulations yes (the contributing to delinquency of a minor law) etc. As long as the minor is not purchasing the alcohol its usually overlooked.

Wow so in america I could take a 15 year old to a club and get them smashed as long as they don't pay for drinks?!

Vodka put into water bottles. Whiskey mixed into coke bottles. High school... those were the days. First started doing that when I was a freshman. I have no idea how I used to drink vodka straight like that LoL.

me to man me to, no idea how i used to pull that off. I used to have a girlfriend that i used to drink vodka on the rocks with breakfast with, no way could i pull that off now.

between my sister and I, basically all of my parents liquor bottles were 100% water by the time we moved out.

I worked for Burger King while in high school... after the night shift got out, we'd sit in the parking lot in back of the restaurant getting drunk (it was one of those L shaped lots, where the side was visible from the street, but not the back) before walking home.

there was also a foreclosed/abandoned house that we'd break into, but that was a lot riskier since we couldn't use any lights and we'd be F'd if the neighbors noticed and called the cops.

I came home smashed once, but my parents just eye-rolled and told me not to do it again. kinda fucked up that my dad gave me a bloody nose for eating ice cream, but didn't give a shit that I was getting drunk at 16.

Junior or senior year of high school I went to a buddy's house to watch the game and drank about half a 750 of Absolut on the rocks before the game even started. Puked during the whole game, sobered up, then had to take people home. I had to pull of the side of the road probably 10 times to puke.

Got home, still puking, and told my mom that I ate some undercooked burgers. I think she bought it, or at least led me to believe so. :hmm:

No. Unlike a minor or even a 20yo, a 21yo can legally buy and drink alcohol, but they can't *drink it legally* just anywhere. For example, there are signs posted at convenience stores that say that you can't open an alcoholic container on the premesis by order of law, so even a 21yo can't drink there. There are laws that say that you can't have an open container inside a motor vehicle (you can only transport canned/bottled alcohol), so a 21yo can't drink there either. All I'm saying is that a 21yo can legally buy a 5yo an alcoholic beverage and that 5yo can legally drink it but the 5yo can't legally drink it anywhere just like the 21yo can't even though the 21yo has no more restrictions than a 100+yo. Simple. It's legal to drink at any age, it's only legal to buy at 21 or higher.

your!=you're

Your statement was a fragment:
"as long as your [posessive; meaning "my" from my perspective of being addressed by you] over 2"

I guess the problem is actually that I understood what you wrote better than even you did.

Had friends that had parents that didn't care. So didn't really have to try to hide it. Plus my parents were cool with me coming home a little drunk on the weekends.

If you did it without parental consent, that's exactly the kind of thing "contributing" and "endangerment" are often used on.

Also, most places that serve alcohol would not allow anyone under 21 in the door so that their bartenders don't have to check ID at every serving.
