When you're not feeling good do you take OTC medications?

So whenever you start to feel like you might get sick or when you are sick... Or maybe you just have a headache or whatever.

???

No. I used to, but my body developed some sort of immunity to ibuprofen and acetaminophen so I stopped taking them. At one point I was taking in excess of 3000mg daily of Ibuprofen for over a year.

^ holy liver man

Yeah, thank God the liver is pretty tough and I think it's fixed itself since. Though afterwards I assaulted it with excessive amounts of alcohol 5 times a week for about 1.5 years, so I'm not really doing it any favours.

Are you taking different stuff now that is not OTC?

I don't take anything anymore. I'd choose to suffer through rather than mask the symptoms. Now, if something was seriously wrong (beyond a migraine/cold/flu) I might consider taking something with proper direction.

If it's something that will pass in time with no serious risks, I'll just let it happen.

Maybe this has to do with my ongoing battle with cocaine and percocet addiction (not that I indulge anymore, but I often think of it).

Most of the time I just tough it out. I'm not a medication type taking kind of person. Only time I'll take something is if it's real bad.

Depends on what's wrong. Headaches, yes, I live on Excedrin...colds, nope, not unless it turns into an upper respiratory infection/bronchitis type of cold. Then, I take whatever I need to take to combat the symptoms.

I've always stayed away from legal drugs. I haven't taken anything other than antibiotics in decades.

I get headaches almost daily. Take Ibuprofen/acetaminophen/excedrin pretty regularly in addition some anti-migraine medicine (prescription) that keeps me from having them every waking moment : ( Probably averages to 1 or 2 doses a day. I'll take nyquil/dayquil when I have a cold; not worth risking getting secondary infections from congestion. I'll take sleep aid stuff sometimes, but I try not to rely on that.

Yes I'll take an OTC I get headaches way to often and they're almost always debilitating I hate the world types. When I get a cold I'll use Afrin, and nyquil especially at night because the last thing I want when I'm sick is to not feel rested.

Well, Pepto works well for any digestion problems.

But I don't really get "OTC sick." I was laid up with a bronchial condition in 1997, and right now I seem to have some strain of antibiotic-resistant strep throat. (with no soreness to medicate away.). In between, not even a cold.
On the rare occasion I get a headache it's either eye strain or caffeine withdrawal. So I just stop whatever it is that's straining my eyes or I have a Coke.
I was seasick once. After 20 minutes of playing Warcraft III in 30 foot swells, I felt kinda queasy. So I shut down my laptop and was perfectly fine 5 minutes later. (This when 2/3rds of the crew was SIQ. Made it an eerie ghost ship.)

Nope. That's what alcohol is for. The ultimate self-medication.

True. I start with heavy doses of beer and if that don't work I go to tea and whiskey. If still no effect, then I got to the OTC meds. By the time I start puking I don't know if it's from the alcohol or the illness, but I don't give a shit at that point cause I feel good by then and pass out.

I take nyquil when I'm sick and can't sleep. I always have messed up dreams when I take it, but it does help me sleep.

Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Very rarely though, once every 5-6 months. Once in awhile I'll tweak a shoulder or neck, 1 pill is all I need to pass the time until it corrects itself.

That's happened to me before. I don't get a good sleep but I have weird dreams. My wife claims it may be from the pseudoephedrine in it.

Yeah, that nyquil d syrup with pseudoephedrine is harsh. I take the liquicaps, which have doxylamine in them, which is less potent, but it still messes me up.

Yup. Alcohol first, then meds (OTC or otherwise). By the time I recover from that assortment, I seldom remember what, if anything, I was medicating in the first place

Nope, no meds here. I did take Benadryl when I had an allegric reaction a few years back.
I just deal with headaches by staying busy, and I just tough through everything else.

Ibuprofen when I'm in pain, but thankfully that's pretty rare (last was an abscessed tooth a couple of years ago).

Cold / flu I just suffer.
