I have both trackpad and point on mine...I would not buy a laptop without a trackpoint though.

A mouse is much better though.

For trackpads I turn off all the shortcuts and crap.

I absolutely HATE the nub, I usually remove it from the keyboard so I don't accidentally smack it while typing. I got for the touchpad if and when I can. However, if this is on my personal pc, I'll opt for this:

See, I am the opposite. I end up hitting the touch pad with my wrists when I am typing. I usually disable it through the OS to avoid this.

fingers work great for scrolling through PDFs and Google maps

I liked trackpoints when I first used them, but got so accustomed to the touchpad on my laptop that the trackpoint seems clumsy and slow in comparison. I have a mouse, but generally find myself valuing the desk real estate more than the additional accuracy of the mouse. If I do image stuff, I pull out the mouse again.

It's usually somewhere saved as an executable if it doesn't show up natively in the mouse control panel.

I learned to like the touchpad a lot more when I turned off everything but having it just follow my finger like a mouse.

I still prefer the pointer/nipple.
