When's the last bad tank of gas you had

I've gotten one. It was back in the mid 1970's at one of the Ft. Gordon, GA, PX gas stations. Same as Butch below, I had to pour in a bunch of HEET to fix it. Guess the tanks just got filled and stirred up the water.





And this is what my dad told me: Never buy gas from a small, quiet station. Buy from a busy station. Much higher assurance of getting fresh gas.

And about the delivery thing, I was taught you don't buy when the tanker's delivering or immediately after because, not of sediment, but because it stirs up the water that's settled on the bottom of the tank. Of course, these days I'd imagine there's less water present due to all the ethanol that's been run through busy stations' tanks.

Yea, good advise, this was a very old station with very old tanks. The state of FL has enacted a law that all underground tanks MUST be of a double-walled design or you cannot use them. They did give a 10 year advance warning but the expense still forced many, many independents out of business, digging up and replacing 5-8,000 gallon tanks is expensive stuff.

Sure. I don't though - 2 mile drives aren't great for engines, especially ones with forged pistons. So, it's a weekend/fun car.

Last tank of actual bad gas was years ago, and it wasn't all that bad. Just didn't run as well and mpg was low.

Can't really remember when I got bad gas, I mean sometimes I get a bit less mileage out of a tank, but that's pretty much it. Then again I drive a civic so I think it might run fine even if I filled the tank with cat piss.

I've never had a bad tank of gas.

I usually buy the cheapest within reason. Within reason meaning if it looks like I can get the tank full without getting mugged.

Not since the early 1980s when I mistakenly syphoned diesel out of a city truck in the middle of the night to fill the petrol tank of my 1971 SAAB.

I still won't buy gas at a station that has a tanker pumping it in.

Water stirred up and the maintenance on filters might be off.

Just me I guess.
