Whens the Russian ammo import?

When are they going to bring in more 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm ammo into the country??? The russian ammo is wolf and im not sure what silver bear is, but the ammo has dried up. I remember getting 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 for 70 bucks on sale. I cant believe the prices. Everyone uses this ammo. SKS and AK being the most widely used. Any news would be great for me. Thanks.

I sold my Yugo SKS about 2 years ago. Just checked ammo prices. Holy crap, it's gone up at least %50 from what I remember!

No idea but ammo prices are going up big time across all caliber and all style. I think it has a lot to do with the prices of raw materials for the most part.

They certainly can. The thing is, until now it has never been economical to do so. 7.62x39 has always been known as dirt cheap ammo, now it is relatively expensive so some people will start switching.

I think it is a plot perpetrated by the U.N. to keep hard-wokring americans from defending ourselves. Pretty soon, we'll have to choose between buying food to feed our families and buying ammo to protect them.

a friend of mine is waiting for the russian ammo import too. He's a collector and still has a bunch in his stash, but he wants more!!

He really likes his old guns... He can talk for hours about each one...

Well my dad just bought 5,000 rounds from the sportsman's guide. He got it for $113.97 per thousand. I hope they import more soon and prices come down alot. But quite honestly right now thats not a bad price. Its wolf, and i used to get it for 70 bucks per thousand, oh well.... Buy it when its cheap, and buy alot of it im tellin u.... But holy crap we got 250 rounds of .50, $400!!!!!!!!! AHHH! I shoot an AR-15, and .223 prices havent gone up alot, some, but not alot. But wolf ammo has dried up. Stuck with the expensive stuff for now. At least its reliable...

Heh, iduno if its concrete, but take my word. i called up gander mountain and asked. the guy said he had federal, and some match ammo, but the country has dried up as far as russian cheap stuff goes. We need to make cheap ammo in the US...

Seems like kind of a stretch. Why would a big manufacturer like Wolf forgo the reliable, profit bearing US market full of stable US dollars to meddle with small time arms deals in the middle east who could die tomorrow or never pay?

It also doesn't explain the general lack of .223 available.

The US Armed forces are buying all the .223 they can get their hands on. They also recalled all their Civilian Arms Program Garands. Shipping Containers have also skyrocketed. There was a surplus of 20 ft containers two years ago, now the price to buy is twice what it was a year ago. The guy I bought my 40 ft from was telling me that the DOD was shopping his stock, and this was Sept of 04. And they were paying above market prices, as well.
As for arms dealers, they don't carry cash. It's too damn bulky. Plus it can get ripped off.
They get paid through wire transfers, in offshore accounts. The weapons are sitting in a shipping yard in some port, in a container. There are containers like this in the US at this moment. And NO ONE but the shipper, and maybe an insider at the shipping company knows which onesa are filled with these goodies. Typically though they are pre staged in other countries, where the regulating officials can be bribed more easily.
As for the "profitable US Market", They (the foreign forces we are currently engaging) shoot more rounds in 2 weeks than the US sportsman market shoots in two years.


This is why selling vital infrastructure to foreign governments is not a good idea.

I can't comment on CAP Garands, goodies in containers, or actual containers. However it doesn't seem that the US military would be snatching up all the stock of .223 from Wolf. There are plenty of high volume ammunition manufacturers here in the states still.

Also do you have any real numbers on the amount of ammunition consumed in the US vs. overseas markets? As for 7.63 and .223 I think that the consumption in the US would tend to favor 'enthusiasts' rather than 'sportsmen'.
