Also do you have any real numbers on the amount of ammunition consumed in the US vs. overseas markets? As for 7.63 and .223 I think that the consumption in the US would tend to favor 'enthusiasts' rather than 'sportsmen'.
Sportsmen or enthusiast is simply semantics.
All of those users combined will not equal the ammo expended by US Forces in the same time period.
No, I don't have any numbers, but given that Rumsfeld's raison de etre was to produce a smaller, more efficient Infantry. That includes smaller stockpiles of arms, ammo and other equipment. Remember, these same soldiers were sent into harms way withOUT appropriate body armor. The same stuff issued EVERY FREAKIN POLICE OFFICER in the US. That their parents had to SHAME this administration into providing appropriate supplies still irks the hell out of me. All in the name of saving a buck.
It's not so far a stretch to believe that ammunition would be rationed out as well, given the other aspects that I happen to have first hand experience with.
It's quicker to buy up the market, let prices rise as demand and supply cross each other. Furthermore, it looks good on the "books" of the National Economy.
There is no model for prices of anything to drop where the Government is concerned.
