Where are 8 way opteron servers?

I thouhgt 8 way opterons were coming and that they were going to be insane. I can't seem to find any info on them.
AMD's site makes no mention of them.

Also I can't find any good, current benchmarks using MS SQL.

Sigh, so much for convincing IT that opterons are the way to go...

They are up in your imagination, where x86 machines can actually scale beyond 4 processors with some dignity .
Also note that a retail 4-CPU mobo was only very recently released.

Umm... were you anytime soon waiting for that kind of system for your desktop? Only companies like IBM, HP, and Sun would utilize that kind of spec for "mainstream" mainframe use in the IT sector. Don't expect them to work with regular PC hardware. Most likely it'll have specs which are PCI-X (not to be confused with PCI Express), integrated 4MB ATI GPU and SCSI

8-way Opteron is useless for us "normal" users, unless you run some really important tasks on your home/office PC.

I dont want it for home use. I want our IT dept to get it for our insanely huge/slow DB.

Also that AMD link says that the CPUS are for 4 and 8 way servers. It doesn't say that the 8-way actually EXIST...

That's a 4 way server.
The CPUs for 4 and 8 way systems are names 8xx. That still doesnt mean that there is an 8 way server anywhere.
