Where are more widescreen LCD's?

Looking through a catalog at newegg I'm seeing very few widescreen LCD's. Sure, viewsonic might have a 23" now and sony as well. But really, the only companies that are really pushing theirs are dell, samsung, apple, and HP. Why haven't more of these companies noticed the high demand for the 2005fpw and the 2405? 2405 and 2005 have absolutely dominated the LCD landscape. Look at any display forum anywhere and you will see an astonishing amount of dell widescreen owners. We LOVE widescreen, and i'm sure many of us here would prefer a low ms 20" widescreen to a 19" 4:3. Widescreen really is the way of the future.

Speaking of which, I find it very weird how this generation of monitors is controlled mostly by the major computer corporations. Before, Dell and HP would never really have the reputation of being great CRT producers. NEC, samsung, and viewsonic dominated the CRT landscape.

Well, you just named 6 companies. That is more than a few. I have the Sony's (great monitors) and the Apple's (great monitors, if a bit big), with the Dell's on order. The problem is that it costs a lot of money to make these large LCDs, and it costs a lot of money to buy them. Until the cost to manufacture the widescreen LCDs drops, I do not see more companies entering this field.

Most LCD panels are made by a handful of companies with others repackaging them. It's a simplification but that's basically it. Some makers have really expensive LCD's and are out of the reach of most. I think next year is when you'll see a lot more widescreen LCD's being sold.

Companies making widescreen LCD's (some are merely announcing products to ship soon). Phillips, Samsung, LG, Dell, HP, Apple, BenQ, Acer, Planar, Sony, Gateway.

Chi Mei's coming out with a widescreen 19" soon -- we'll see how that one goes.
